Has anybody pulled out their diesel and put in a newer unit with more hp? If so what would you do the same and what would you do different I am considering a 5.9 to 6.7 swap.

Just buy one that doesn't have a diesel engine designed for a pickup in it, 8L or larger. I cant imagine the headaches of doing an engine swap in a mo-ho.

of course, not going with a pickup motor in an Rv.

You can do as much with the 5.9 as you can a 6.7.

You need to describe what you are lacking and what you want.

What I'm saying is the 5.9 and 6.7 are both truck engines, regardless of the fact that some coach builders decided to install them in motorhomes. Sell your current unit and buy a motorhome with something pre-emissions and with an engine displacement larger than 8l designed for heavy duty applications. I don't understand why you would do this to yourself when you can have all the torque you need out of a larger engine, from the factory, and running a high margin of safety from destruction. I can run my ISM450 coach grossing around 45k w/ my loaded enclosed in tow wooded to the floor anywhere I want as long as I manually shift to keep the RPMS above 2000 in order to keep the engine cool by the hydraulically driven cooling fans. If I lug it, the fans slow down and the water temp creeps. I don't have a pyro or a boost gauge because the thing was designed from the factory to not destroy itself. To get 450hp/1500tq from a 5.9 or 6.7 and pull that same load, I'd need a dash full of gauges to make sure I didn't melt the sucker down, and I'd still probably melt it down.

Two friends in my group have spent thousands at PDI in St. George swapping turbos and tuning their small displacement coaches to run faster, and all they do now is worry about exhaust temps and if they're melting their pistons while I'm still out pulling them up the hills without a worry or care.

I understand your position and yes I do like the ISM and even some of the CAT line up But to my knowledge nobody is putting those engines in a 32 foot pusher. I am not saying one did not exist just that I did not see it when shopping if you know of one please let me know I would be down to buy something like that.
As it stands I want to keep what I have since it is paid for and was just considering a bit more displacement to get up the grade at a decent speed by decent I mean 55-60 thats all.

Just looking to up the displacement since the blocks require minimal effort to interchange them and the 6.7 is sleeved incase I need it down the road. I also don’t want to overshoot the Allison ratings and be the guy with 800 dyno horsepower bolted to a Bravo drive.

The only 32' unit I can think of was an early to mid 90's Beaver Patriot, I'm sure there were others, but that's the only one I can think of off the top of my head. I think they had the small Cummins 5.9 truck engines. A 34' unit can be had with the Cummins 8.3 350, a Foretravel U270. Foretravel made a 36' unit, the U320, with the IMS450 (these things are serious hot rods!). They also made 36' units with the 8.3 the U295. These coach models are highly sought after for people wanting power and a short coach. I think Alpine made a 34'er with either Cat or Cummins power but cant recall the displacement.

Are you towing anything?

Just a Jku, we use the Ram to tow the bigger support trailer with the desert truck . I am a big fan of the Foretravel coach when I retire and need it more it is an upgrade goal for me. Right now the shorty works perfect for what we are doing

I have a 2000 U320 40' single slide. They're built for a couple, not a great coach for a family. Also built for shorter people. At 6'-3", I'm not comfortable standing inside with boots on due to the dropped ceiling for the roof ducted AC units. But, they are one of the most well built coaches you can buy in that era. Everything is solid wood, the outboard airbags make the coach stable as you could ever ask for, and they were all well powered for their size. I don't think I could own another motorhome with less than the ISM450. There is a fantastic forum of owners at Foreforums.com if you ever want to really dive into some research. Best of luck on your quest for more torque & power.

I will have to checkout that forum. Thank you. As for the low roof line i sure noticed it on some models when shopping I do recall looking at an Alfa see ya and thinking dang it is like having twelve foot ceilings in a house🤣 that must be why I like the Monaco I feel lime a Giant🤣
