When I was under the drinking age limit (19) of my state, New Mexico, I conspired with a couple of friends to make a giant DL from poster board and vinyl cut letters and numbers. A large square in the upper left section of the board was cut out. Two loops were attached to the back.

After a couple of practice shots with my Polaroid camera to get the photo size correct, we went into the business of making Idaho driver's licenses. We figured no one in New Mexico knew what an Idaho license looked like, and this was way before the 50 state images of DLs was printed in book form for Rahjeed and his fellow convenience store clerk buddies.

Mine worked for a little more than a year, then the state lowered the drinking age to 18 so I no longer needed the fake ID.

:D

I had a few. One wasn’t even close and got taken away at Kokomo’s. The second had all my correct info, my picture and birthday just a different dob. It did everything accept scan because that’s right when a few places got the scanner, went to Fred’s in HB they scanned it, took it and marked my hands with X’s when I said hey WTF he said listen I know it’s fake so either enjoy your time or let’s have the cops verify it’s real.

I had one, got my ex wife one too. Worked till I was 21.
She was kinda dumb and handed hers to a CHP officer that pulled her over for a ticket.
Got her another and it got yanked at a night club. A few years later that bouncer that took it left a scrap book full of fake ids in his car at the shop I used to work at. I did get it back.

For a six pack of lowenbrau!

My brother is two years older. Our drinking age has always been 19. He turned 19 in 1989. At the time the DMV database didn't store pictures on the system. I went to the DMV and said I was my brother. I just made sure to check the mail everyday. Net got a real license with my picture under my brothers name. It even worked with the cops in bars. We hung out in dive strip joints.

Never had a fake ID. But, pumped gas and stocked the beer at the local mini Mart. Had to pay for the beer otherwise inventory would be off but always had plenty.

No fake ID. However, during early years of college in Chico, my friend (who was also my roommate and friend from high school) worked at a liquor store. So, he would sell me good Sierra Nevada beer. Worked great until he was robbed at gun point and ended up quitting soon after.

I never had a fake ID didn’t need it, we would go to the local liquor store where the illegals would stop in and give em $10 bucks for a 12 pack and let them keep the charge. 12 packs were only $6, 7- 8 bucks at the time, say 1984/85. Oh and wine coolers were a huge deal back then

Also had a liquor store that would sell but inflate the cost....

We had all kinds of drinking locations / impromptu party spots cull de sacks, dirt lots, mtn tops.... we had one spot called UDS - Undiscovered Drinking Spot!

I had a Tennessee one and a university of Tennessee student ID. If I find it, I’ll post it! I would put the fake student ID in my wallet so it showed when I pulled out fake ID. Never got questioned, even in Vegas. My boyfriend at the time had a friend who made security cards for hospitals so he did this on the side.

Same here, had my older brothers and it worked great.

I remember one time going to a local bar and being carded by the waitress. She asked me all sorts of questions and said this isnt your ID, I went to school with your brother and know him. She was cool about it and still served me!

Our friend was an artist and we only had paper drivers license so he just changed the date
We were 16 and 17 in IL and drinking age was 19 so we just drove across the WI border where it was only 18 drinking age
They called it Blood Border for obvious reasons

Knew a kid whose mother was an administrator at a Hospital. This kid had managed to get a stack of stamped birth certificates from his mom's office. For a price he would sell you a birth certificate filled in with a new identity. Took this new birth certificate to the Ramona DMV off the 67 and took my driving test, passed, had my picture taken, and got my official CA drivers license in my new name. The kid I got it from was smart and would make the DOB's so that you wouldn't turn 21 until 3-4 months after you had the license, less scrutiny that way. This license was epic as it was assigned to a person who didn't exist. Speeding ticket, here you go officer put it on my tab. One of my other friends that bought one also got a passport in his new name just because he could. I think I still have it somewhere though it's long expired, got summons for jury duty for it too.

No never really needed one, someone's brother would usually get the beer or whatever before 18, after 18 we could get in most bars or nightclubs.

In NY you had a basic Driver's License which was a non-laminated paper document issued by DMV much like your car registration. Those needing a photo ID, there was a Sheriff's ID laminated card issued by the County Sherrif. My brother turned 18 in June of 1977 and got his Sheriff's ID card. Three days later I had it. I was 14.

I was able to grow a full beard at 16 and was never carded. In 1978 I was a Sophomore At Warren High in Downey and there were several of those drive through Dairy/Convenience store deals, they would make me get out of the car to get the bag but never questioned me. Then after we moved to the High Desert there were a couple gas staions I would go to regularly on the way out to Deep Creek one of our 4 wheeling spots.

My buddy was 2 years older than me so when he turned 21 I used his birth certificate and went to the dmv and got an ID card with his info and my address and picture. An official ID with the California stamp on it.

like another member posted:

prior to DMV retaining pictures on a computer, I had a close friend who was a year older than me.
as per description we could be the same person.
So i went to the DMV and gave all of his info passing myself off as my friend. they took my picture
and mailed it to his house. we could go to the same bars, but for safety I would wait like 20 minutes
after he already entered so the bouncers didn't catch it. this was in Chico........

Not when I was younger... But in a few years I'm going to get one that makes me 65 so I can get senior citizen discounts! :D

You can get most senior discounts at 55 if you remember to ask. Now if your at the "full retirement age" for social security and you can fake that your 70, You can pick up a grand or more a month.

Of course. Made them from chalk and pencil in high school for people for $5. Went to college and made them for people from copies of birth certificates. Got one pulled for what they called a “ mutilated license.” That’s when the ticket I ignored re surfaced and had to take my dad to court and to the dmv to get a new license.

Never had one.....Just showed my real d/l and hoped the guy was too dumb to do the math. Most of the time it worked, I guess they figgered if I was ballsy enough to show an ID I must be old enough.

Yes, but it didn’t make it until my actual 21st birthday.

I used it for years until I went to a bar in Orange, the bouncer asked me to pull it out of my wallet, so I did. He laughed, took his lighter, and lit it on fire. Lol

Luckily I only had a couple months until my 21st.

My buddy and I went down to good ol Alvarado street and got them when we were 18, mine worked great until memorial weekend 3 days before I turned 21. I had my liberty out in the channel and figured instead of going back through at 4 in the afternoon I’d just go around the island back to Windsor...well with 4 people and rollers we all got pretty wet. Needless to say my wallet got wet and my fake ID delaminated. :( Weekend was ruined. Haha

In Vancouver, you didn't really need fake id. The Vancouver police just kicked you out of the bar. Since the bar wasn't penalized, they didn't care as much about letting in under age kids. At house parties, cops ignored the drinking and even drugs here. They'd just come to the front door and tell us to keep the noise down. If drinking in a park or someplace like that. They just poured out our booze and sent us home. Sometimes they'd ask our names and parents phone number. Cops here kind of cool. In Surrey, they could be a little more penalizing. Its the RCMP there. Worse case they'd drive us home and speak with our parents. Since our drinking age is 19, booze was very easy to get. Back in the day, the cab drivers would do a beer run for an extra tip. They never asked for id.

I'm surprised my friends and I survived growing up here.

I think Mark Harrell borrowed that home made Idaho board from you guys...
We all used it.
My first fake I.D.
Everyone at Eldorado had Idaho fake I.D.'s.
Thanks for the jogging of great memories!

Never needed one. Always had a older friend or just bribed the local drunk to get us whatever we wanted.

Shit I was driving around at 14....the Sheriff pulled me over a week before my 16th birthday and nearly got me for DUI...he was more pissed that he had seen me driving for the last 2 years with no license than the fack that I was drinking! :D

Somehow through a friend of a friend I ended up with some guys CA drivers license that lived in SoCal. Dude surprisingly looked a lot like me but was about 5 years older. I used the shit out of that ID from 18-21...I had that thing memorized frontwards and backwards.

Fast forward to today,(this was 30 years ago) the dude had kind of a unique name and I still remember it to this day. I get on Facebook and punch in his name and sure as shit there he is. I guess he's a director for TV now. I considered contacting him and thanking him for getting me through my pre-21 years, as I'm sure he has no clue his ID was being used, but decided that might be a little weird.:D

Growing up in Tennessee in the early 70's our county was a dry county so to get the hard stuff it was a 45 mile race to the nearest liquor store in Oakridge, TN. Our licences were paper and everything was typed on it. We found a typewriter at my buddy's dad's office that was like characters and modified our licences and were good to go. Ah the good old days...

Drafting age is 18 in Hungary, so I didn't need ID, drinking in the cantina when I was drafted. You were old enough to fight, old enough to drink.North America needs to change its drinking age law if they want volunteers in the army;):D

Nope.
In Anchorage I was grandfathered in at 18 age limit.
Spent my 18th birthday in the VIP section of The Great Alaska Bush Company, courtesy of all my good buddies.
The original one on 4th avenue, not the one on International.
Edna Cox herself had the girls drag me on the stage.
It’s hard to calculate the damage done that night.

I never needed a fake I.D. Always had of age friends or could get it yourself with a 18 drinking age. I bought for the first time on my 16th birthday. I did know people that enjoyed going to clubs and bars (Korean). LOL. They had fake I.D.s. Are drivers license were like credit cards. I know a few people who would cut off the embossed number on the birthday and replaced it with another one on the drivers license. LOL
