I think they are going to find out how important bottom-end torque is in a dirt bike. These new riders have never had to ring a 125 2-stroke out to keep the engine in its power band, I bet they have a hard time adopting to the Ducati with that valvetrain.

I think they are going to find out how important bottom-end torque is in a dirt bike. These new riders have never had to ring a 125 2-stroke out to keep the engine in its power band, I bet they have a hard time adopting to the Ducati with that valvetrain.

The Desmo valve train lends itself to high rpm’s but that doesn’t mean that it can’t be tuned for low rpm work, the camshaft design is what dictates that. I just hope that they gave good access to those valves for adjustment, they can be tricky.

The old Honda CB 450 twin cam used a similar system.

Mercedes invented it back in the 50’s. The patent has long expired. It’s not so much about high rpm, but more about not having to run heavy valve springs with their associated parasitic losses. They can also run very aggressive cams ( ramps).

I am usually on the PRO CA side of things but every now and then I am shown the error of my ways, don't tell LOF or REGOR, I wouldn't want to disappoint them!

But now that we have gotten rid of the red sticker program I don't even know if we can buy new 2smokes in CA. I suppose it doesn't matter to me since I hardly ride what we have now anyway. The only thing that smells better in the morning than napalm, is 2 stroke oil.

Sorry I misspoke. Daimler Benz actually invented it in the late 1800’s , but used it in the race cars in the 50’s. Yea it’s an old system for sure.

You can buy one on MSO, can only use it on a private track. Or take it to AZ and register it for $25 and rip it all over.

I bought my 2017 WR450, on MSO and was able to get it plated, added the comp kit exhaust and air box. Still aint no 2 stroker, too heavy!

It looks good, has a good name. We will find out right away if it can perform. The 250 and 450 classes are tight right now. No rider is 100% dominating. The top 5 guys are so close it's incredible.

I will say, if your buying a bike to ride for enjoyments its hard to beat Gas Gas, KTM or Husky. The Japanese bikes are great, but you have to put some money into them to equate the Austrian. With that said, the Austrian bikes will soon be manufactured in an Asian country so they may fall off. Time will tell. For now, I wouldn't buy anything but a GG, KTM or Husky.

I'd actually venture to say most came up on 150 4 strokes. I dont think many have been on a 2-stroke since maybe the KTM 65's. Remember, we aren't talking about 30 year old riders here, were talking about late teens, early 20's riders. The phase out of 2 strokes had already been completed for supercross by then and the overwhelming majority of the lower MX classes as well by the time they were starting to race.

I’m not aware of any pro that wasn’t on super minis until graduating to the 250 class. Maybe they do it differently across the pond?

Unless something has changed in the past 5 or 6 years (I really havent payed attention to the mini's or anything in a long time), the Supermini class was being dominated by the 150 4-strokes.

Maybe in the stock class but super mini is still dominated by 2 strokes. Honda is the only one who makes a 4 stroke that can compete. The super minis might as well be 125s, they are nuts lol.
