Damn kids and Cell Phones

I have about had it with my 15 year old and her damn cell phone(s).

Here is the story in short. (well maybe longer then expected )

We signed back up with Verizon a little over a year ago, we got her a Razr phone, yeap it was a free one but whatever, she was pissed thought we should have spent $200 on a phone for her, no way in hell. So about 4 months into having this new phone she tells me that it has been stolen, I think that she lost it mostly because she is a terrible liar and I can see right through her, I make her stew for a while, no phone for a couple of weeks, that's pure hell on a teenager for those of you without them . After the stewing process I activate her mothers old phone for her, she hates it but again whatever she will get over it. Fast forward about 6 months, my company upgraded my phone, I got to keep the old one, she begs and begs for my old one, being the great guy that I am I eventually give in, she uses it for about two months then comes to me and tells me that she dropped it in the freaking toilet, splash down, phone is toast, wont come back to life. Now I have to re-activate the other phone that I de-activated 2 months earlier....Well here we are today, the old phone has finally taken a shit on her. Now she calls me from the home phone and is crying that she wants/needs a new phone, pretty much at this point I could give a rats ass about the stupid phone, but it is the only way that I can get hold of her so I am now on a mission to find her a phone..... Sorry for the long post but I had to vent...

BTW, anyone have a PINK Razr phone that they want to sell or trade for? She hates PINK, I think that would suit her just fine for the time being...

You notice that everybody drops their phone in the pool, they never admit it went in the toilet. Although I guess in the northern frozen wastes, the pool story wouldn't work.

I had a pager (yep...) till i was like 15? Then i had a pre-paid cheapy phone till i graduated to a phone that cost $10/a month (some sort of emergency 60 minutes a month deal). When i turned 18, I went and got my own phone.

My sister is 11. Our aunt got her a prepaid cell phone for christmas and she is already trying to weasel a new one out of her dad. I almost punched her.... lol :swear

It cracks me up seeing kids playing with pda phones... i just graduated to a black jack (do some work/email crap with it, thats about it, other than being able to post from wherever). Damn it makes me feel old griping about it though! LOL

I feel your pain. My 18 year old is on her sixth or seventh phone. This last one her boyfriend bought her an iphone. She dumped the guy after four months. That stupid iphone is and extra $30.00 an month just to have it and her last bill was $350.00. She is paying the bill but how the fukk can she talk over 1400 minutes and have over 1,000 texts? Last month her bill was $250.00. She is quitting her job this week to swim varsity so I dropped the phone from my plan today. She can get her own service. She uses all of our family shared minutes and my minutes cost more. :hotdevil

Doesn't Verizon have a plan similar to Sprint,
We get 2400 minutes, unlimited texting (5 phones) and a certain amount of picture mail (on 2 phones). It runs us about 180.00 a month.

I had a coulple of $800.00-900.00 bills because of texting. those are painful to pay when you figure it's just so the kids can be on a phone.

My son has lost or broken at least 4 phones.....the last one he left sitting on the roof of his car and drove away. We found it in an intersection 3 blocks away, after it had been run over at least once.

We get the Sprint loss/damage waiver, it costs about $7.00 per month.

I have never lost or broken a phone...........

Same here, but i don't think it covers water damage.
I have dropped mine in the pool and it has gone through the wash. I just pull the battery off, let it sit for about 2-3 days and (so far) it comes back working fine. I just have the cheapest phone they give and its about 6 yrs old. Figure if i get a new one my luck might not be so good.

I called and had text and internet access turned off. They should be paying us to text instead of voice. The price that they get for that minute bit of bandwidth is robbery to say the least. Think is RDP paid that much for bandwidth!

I had a razor for.. probably a year or so? The problems I had with the phone were the "sim" card would slightly move, and then the phone wouldn't work.. Lose all reception, phone #'s etc.. So I'd have to take the back cover off, move hte sim card around, then unplug the battery put it back in etc..

Stacy's ringer quit working on hers after a shortwhile, granted she dropped hers a few times.

We both just got replacement new Razor's.. It's been about 3 weeks, I haven't dropped the phone etc.. The ringer just stopped working today.

BUT - no one here has suggested prepaid - this is a great idea even though you have the whole family plan. I would consider it.

Benefits include but not limited to:
* Budgeting - limited and finite resource
* Forecasting - who is important
* Pure comedy for you - watching it go down every month would be rather amusing.

Find someone who will give/sell you their old phone cheep. Invest in a can of spray PINK paint, remove the casing, paint, let dry reassemble phone... there you have it!

Prepiad is a joke. My daughter went out and bought her own phone with a prepiad plan with her own babysitting money. It cost a dollar a day just to have the phone on. That alone is thirty bucks a month. Then they charged ten cents a minute for calls anytime. I can't even remember how much each text message was.

SO I went out and got a family plan and got my two older kids phones. I wanted to use add her cheap prepaid phone for my 8 yr old in case she got stranded and add to our family plan, but of coarse I got some bullshit story that the prepaid phones won't work with the regular plans.

Anywyas, I've had to take the phones away form the kids on a variety of different occaisions but I've been lucky so far, they haven't lost 'em or broken 'em. Knock on wood....
