Great post. couldn't agree more. The way Tommy tells his story makes you understand how tough life can be, but his love, and dignity focus us to the things that really matter, and what real problems look like. Thanks for putty my thoughts into words. I don't know Tommy personally, but he's the definition of what we should all strive to be. This event has brought me to tears many times.

This is probably the Very Best Post and Thread that I have EVER read on RDP!!!!
Couldn't have been said any better!
Excellent Post and Thank You for taking the time to share your thoughts!
I have personally met Tommy and he is in person the same guy that you all think he is.

He should be and I'm certain that Deb is proud of the impact they have made in other peoples lives either directly or indirectly and that fact is evident simply by this thread!
Well Done!
Jeff

Nicely said. I had typed out a few different things to say to Tommy, but they just didn’t sound like they were enough. I could not imagine being that strong through that whole thing.

The above was wonderfully said and no way I could say it like that. I've been here awhile and although I never met this couple I feel like I know them well. Tommy and I have exchanged PM's and everyone of them seemed like I was typing with a great guy. Tommy, take care of yourself and keep Deb's memory close to the heart. God bless you both.

I will tell you guys this.
For 10 years Deb and I had no boundaries. We were looked at as the “irresponsible” couple by her family. Not in a bad way, but we just never took life as serious as we were supposed to I guess. We would jump on a plane to a Race or a Browns home game on a whim, or a plane to Hawaii or whatever. When I came home from work I’d have 2 weeks off. We had both never had a lot before we met when we were both 41. We are both 56 now. (We we’re both born in the same maternity ward in Biloxi 6 months apart, I don’t know ANYONE else born in Biloxi)
When we got married I started Directional Drilling and we had what was, to us, disposable cash.
We were probably the worst possible combination when it came any sort of responsibility because neither one of us was any sort of buffer for the other. It was always “hell yes, let’s do that!”.
It’s funny how life works. If we had squirreled away money and planned on a retirement, like sane people, it would have been a total waste, as it turns out.
We did more in 10 good years than a lot do their whole lives.
Those things that we say “oh we are going to do that one day”....well, today is that day. Do it.

Well said Tom ... your words here define our current situation ... we're doing as best we can:

Basically....slow your roll peeps and appreciate what you have TODAY! Nobody is guaranteed tomorrow and someone out there is always worse off than you no matter the circumstances you face TODAY!

Really good to see people showing their true colors here - lots of class and quality from people many of us "know" but don't really know.

What I can add is wait until you get even older than you are now. You may still "feel young" (think you are anyway) but your brain will have you thinking things you've likely not thought of before - like your mortality. Flashes of what will eventually come.

These posts and those kind of thoughts should help everyone put things into perspective just a little bit better. Time is our most precious asset. Use every day wisely and enjoy while you can

Couldn't have said it better myself. Sometime I lose track at whats in front of me because I constantly fight for a better tomorrow.....when I should stop to smell the roses in life and be grateful for what I have and learn from what ive lost.

Well said..... Some people unfortunately will never figure this out until it's too late.

The sooner you figure out the true meaning of life is surrounding yourself with positive people and spending time with loved ones doing the things you love the better off you will be.

In the end all the $$$ and possessions we have mean exactly jack shit......Live for today while planning for tommorow...treat people with kindness....and love as much as possible
