I would like to buy insurance on my Tiny house I built. It a house basically built on top of a equipment trailer. I live in it while my main home is being built. House it registered as a "Park Model" and 12 ft wide and 50 feet long. It does not move until I sell it when the house is complete. Anyone know who would insure it for $100k? Just want it protected from a fire or other incident.

Thanks, B

Stay AWAY from Geico! Cheap insurance isn't good insurance. I was warned and didn't listen. Expensive mistake.

When I was living in a trailer (MH), Foremost was just about the only one that would write a policy. Never did have any issues so can't comment on their customer service, but rates were cheap.

The name says it all... GEICO = Government Employee Insurance Company (originally)

Why is that? Does he have more national carriers then INSGROUP?

I don't know how many carriers he has.. but generally speaking if it's some crazy high performance boat in CA I send them to Eric Lopez because he has unbeatable rates. If it's some crazy high performance boat outside of CA I send them to you or Brad.. If it's home / auto I have always sent to Brad because I know he does a lot of that.

Untrue, you might want to verify that with Eric. Eric has a great program, and a exclusive program. Is a great guy to do business with, takes great care of his clients and is a friend of mine, but not unbeatable on all Ca performance boats. That is a very wide statement.

As you refer people to agents you might like to know the size of the business they write and how many carriers they have to offer the clients you are referring.

Well I'm not an insurance expert.. but I'll stand behind my wide statement on the Eric program other than to say he is extremely selective of the people he will place in the program and for good reason.

As for the home / auto etc.. It's just the way I have always referred people on RDP, and haven't had any complaints how I have done it until now. I wasn't aware you wanted me to promote Insgroup for Home / Auto, but if ya do I'd be happy too. :)

As you stated your not a insurance expert and I understand that, I'd suggest you call Eric and ask him about certain boats, not clients or experience. He just isn't competitive on all performance boats. Most, not all. And the ones he's not he sends to me, so keep on sending them to us, we'll write'm.

Lets here the story? They write my Schiada and Skater annually for less than my monthly health insurance extortion!

Bad ass trailer BTW sorry to thread hack.

I'm not an insurance expert, but from what I have heard in the past they tend to deny claims at first and make you fight to get things taken care of. The more the claim the more you have to fight all the way up to attorney time. Again though that's all just things I have heard from the grapevine and friends.

I have heard the same things about Progressive Insurance. When I had my little incident with my outdrive in Parker with the Schiada though they were prompt and handled everything extremely well. I didn't have to argue about anything.

Have you put it on a scale or how did you determine what the trailer capacity would need to be before you built it? BTW, I think is super nice, I am ready to sell everything an move into it!

I have not put it on a scale. Trailer is rated for 20k + pounds. The structural engineer I had design it estimated the weight of the materials. I’m sure it’s heavy. I plan to put new tires on the trailer and wrap it when we move it. The city said I could only have a trailer. Otherwise if it was not on wheels they would inspect it like a house so lots of red tape. So I figured it I was going to live in it I better build it the way I wanted.

I usually don’t like the concept of tiny houses etc.. but I kinda want to buy that thing and stash it on the side of my house as a guest house! Lol

I have had good luck sending my clients with "mobile homes" to Assurant. Due to the value of yours, you might have to go through special underwriting. Good luck! For what it's worth, Andy gets all of my boat referrals because our policy sucks.

Are you planning on selling it when your house is finished?

Yes that’s the plan at one point I will sell it or use it at another location. I have several people that want it. Seem like everyone who sees it has interest in it.

I don’t even need it and I want it. Would love to build one of these for my dad on some land in Hawaii.
