So you hung out with your friends for twice as long on the lake, enjoying the best part of the day (sunset). You avoided all the hassle of launch and retrieve and drank and listened to music twice as hard with zero chance of BUI... priceless!

That looks awesome! Why is it Mohave doesn't seem that popular. Lake is BIG and looks really nice. I've never been and have only heard of a few going over the years.

that's how we did it when I was a kid...…...only we all had 18 foot jet boats and it took multiple trips to deliver the camping gear...…...but we kids loved it, more speed runs to the beaches......thnx for posting for the memories

Best water and beaches around anywhere for a lake. Not the party scene that havasu is though so that’s probably why most don’t go there. My favorite lake by far.

exactly, its the worst.

grew up going there, and camping just like this.

I was constantly having to fight of water snakes, and the place is overrun with tarantulas too!

:)
And snaping turtles, I've been bit. The hell with that place 😉.

No joke on the turtle thing, it hurt like a MF'er

Its a great lake, I pretty much grew up there. I think there is a couple reasons it is not as popular. No drinking bars or sand bars lol, seems to be a lot more LEO but the biggest I think is the launch ramps. small and distant or unpaved. Plus its part of a national park.

I did the same. Grew up on my dads flatty and then when I was old enough I did it in my flatty. Fsamily is big now so the flatty stays home.

Do they require you to bring portapotties or you just dig holes. I know at lake Powell, they will ticket you if you are camping without a portaloo

I have had good luck with the new style molded coolers i.e. Yeti/Rtic etc.. But you pack them with ice only and don't open them until the next day or whatever for a full bag only. You can't sit there going in and out of them. You dedicate a drink cooler for that.... I can store 3 bags of ice for 2 days in 110 degree AZ heat, you will probably net 2 bags at the end, but they will be there for you.

Dry ice is the next trick, big cooler with dry ice on the bottom, followed by a piece of cardboard. Then load the ice over that and don't open them up until you need a full bag...

I am headed to Powell for 5 days and I am going to try something new. I am going to load a molded cooler with ice (unbagged for the maximum amount) and then put two of the "cooler shock" blue ice type units on top of the ice and shut the cooler and see if what I can of retention I can get out of that.

Mohave is closed.
Anyways, huge seas, high winds with "super monsoons" and not suitable for flats or wake/surf boats, either.

Awesome pics, looks like everyone is having a good time. Reminds me of our Yuma jet ski river trips back in the day.

We would take a 125 qt. cooler, dig a hole big enough for the cooler where only the lid was visible, load it with ice and meat. We kept it under an EZ up with wet towels on the lid.

We would only camp there April, May, September and October. June-August was so hot at night you couldn’t sleep so we’d set up a day camp, get a slip at Katherine landing and stay in Laughlin every night. Harrahs or Ramada Express we’re our preferred hotels. The best thing about Mohave is the water is super clean and clear it seems you can see down 25-30’ in places.

Camped on that beach every year for about 6 years. Kids loved it. They got older so we got a place in Havasu! I miss that beach on Mohave. As said above, that's the best beach on the lake. You have to get it early or the houseboats will take it!!
