Here’s a little debate going on at the moment. Have a big memorial trip coming up, I was going to run to Costco and load up on beers, liquor, drinks, snacks, etc and bring it with us. I told my dad the plan, and he says he prefers to buy it in Havasu. Local economy.

My argument was every time a big group goes to the grocery store in Havasu, it turns into a huge money trip with a lot of food waste.

Maybe I’m being short sided, and please tell me if I am, but how many others are going to Costco before heading to Havasu?

Just wanted to get some opinions!

For a weekend trip, Costco. I always get burgers, hot dogs, some snacks and alcohol there before a trip.

My main reasoning is that I don’t like spending my down time shopping. As you noted, it turns into a fiasco, and a time suck.

With that stance does your dad approve of Walmart in town? That is almost as good as Costco from a price perspective, however the meats at Costco are better.

The only grocery store I shop in Havasu is Smith’s. Prices are decent and the selection is excellent. I wish that Smith’s was my local grocery store here in OC.

Dont get me wrong I'm all in for saving a few $s.. but my opinion on this is kinda with your dad. You're using the lake, the roads(even though they are all torn up) amongst other things. So my opinion is spend the money there, it ensures that you will be able to use the lake and facilities for many years to come. Jmo

Our trips are usually 7-10 days. We usually bring some food with us that we prepared and packaged at home then eat out a couple of days. We also make a trip or two too Walmart during our stay.

Yea when we are there a week or more we will bring less and do a shopping run a day or so after we get there.

Really hard to say. If I’m planning for a party I’m going to shop ahead and save money. That being said, I have no problem paying more (assuming they aren’t gouging me and have quality product) to support local business... However, I’m not going to support local assholes...

Yep, that’s exactly what happens. It reminds me of the game shows with the grocery stores. Everyone acts like they have never been in a grocery store and starts throwing everything in the cart lol.

He only goes to Walmart there when he needs something electronic or Home Depot is closed. Smith’s is usually where we shop. I like smiths too and it’s 24 hours so you don’t have to go early in the am. Smaller trips, it’s smiths and grabbing the taco night special at El Corral for some grilling.

Yep! Neighbor had one he didn’t use. It’s in the garage in Corona since there hasn’t been a empty truck yet to bring it there!

My dad has a house there so my argument was he already is helping the economy :) but yes, it’s ultimately his choice!

Costco burgers and hot dogs just taste better! Plus I usually get the fried rice box. Everyone use to think I was crazy until 2am hit and they microwaved the bag for 3 mins and they loved it! Good drunk food.

Yeah those aholes close at midnight here in Kingman..........plus at 9 they lock one door "for your safety and ours". Goddamn fucking stupid. Causes a bottleneck for one and If I was intent on shooting the place up, what difference is 1 door locked gonna be?o_O

Didn’t it use to be? Could have thought I have read 24 hours at one point. Usually get there around 1130pm. Thought it still was.

Havasu moves shopping carts over to the area left of the doors to block the kids that come in and steal beer., make them go thru cash register area.

We will buy certain things like a big ol brisket or carne, jalapeño ground beef ( Kennedy’s Karne ) something special at home but usually buy bulk food in Havasu, it’s easy hit up breakfast ( Black Bear ) then hit smiths...... wife likes to bake so we will hit up Walmart also if it’s a long trip..

The hardest part is learning the store, knowing where everything is at....

I buy booze and kid snacks at Costco and then we get everything else in Havasu. I usually shop at Walmart or Food City. Booze is more expensive in Havasu.

I hate having to pack the truck down b4 a river trip. We toss our bags of clothes in and go. Hit walmart or safeway when we roll into town and we are good to go.

There is no crv on the containers in az. Save a nickle then take home and make another nickel. ;)

Like others have said . If it's a short trip the time wasted in the store makes me grouchy . On a longer trip we bring enough to get through a day then we go to the store and purchase . Thumbs up on supporting the local economy though . Wether it's appreciated or not is another discussion . Lol

big group? let people bring all their own stuff. you're going out to the middle of nowhere it sucks when someone "pre-shops" and only buys basic stuff. sorry but I like my brands of chips, drinks, etc. if im gonna sit out in the sun for hours i wanna at least enjoy it. if theres extra food, toss it back into the cooler and bring it back home with you.

You may want to check that out. According to Google Maps Costco Henderson is about 2 hrs 30 min. from LHC. Costco Prescott is about 3 hrs 30 min.

I am more likely to support a small local store than I would a Smiths when I vacation. I pack up stuff I can get at home for a good price or something I know I want and dont know the quality I may get on the road. I will spend more than enough at bars and restaurants. Hit up the little stores to buy a trinket/gift.
