These days, flashlight technology has advanced ao much. 200 lumens is nothing, Judge the lites by the batteries they use.
Look for 18650 batteries. AA or AAA ??batts.... Pass.
amazon. 1000 lumens or more. they have hundreds cheap.

Thanks and those are the ones I am leaning towards.

I agree with everything stated. However, I'm looking for something cheap to keep in the vehicles that can use typical batteries.

I've owned these ,and because of some electronics inside they eat batteries when stored and not in use. They are bright though

I have both of these. Quality is good with both, price is reasonable on both.
I like to have a flashlight in every nook and cranny.

Flashlight technology is astounding over the old MagLite days (and I loved my MagLites). Really can’t go wrong buying from anything from Costco anyway. Don’t like it in six months, or stops working, they’ll still take it back.

Stuff on Amazon is getting cheaper everyday. Too hard to sort through the junk trying to find a good product.

I’ve got NEBO “Big Larry” lights in each car, with their own little magnetic chargers. 30$ wash and worth every penny.

Get one with a 18650 and never look back. They can be found for 20 or so

Seems like any of them with electronic bells and whistle‘s eat batteries when not in use, I just want it to turn off and on.

Thanks and will be buying them. Like said earlier, with COSTCO return policy can return them later if not happy.

Still have two of mine... nice part of it, doubles as a “protection device “ if needed...

Exactly!
MagLite is mounted to the side of the seat base and an LED flashlight in the door pocket.

Tools for different jobs😁

I got the Larry Trio - great for close up work. Has a light on the side for wide spread work, a flashlight on the end, it’s only a few hundred lumin, but enough for close up work and a red laser good for about a couple hundred feet. Great to keep in the cars too.

Seems like a good deal. I have a streamlite which is awesome but it's $$$. Soonfire on Amazon is legit for $35 but not a life or death situation flashlight.

This.
I fixed the battery eating problem on these Duracell's (and lots of other battery powered stuff) by cutting up an old hotel door lock key card into pieces. I put one of these 'chips' under the battery screw on cap.
When you need the flashlight, remove the chip and you're always good to go.
For what they cost - the Duracell's are very good.

I have tried Duracell 3 pack, they’re OK for the price, but the batteries don’t last.
I prefer LEDLenser MH10 & MH 7headlamps so my hands are free to work. That’s all i use anymore. They’re adjustable from Focused spotlight to wide flood light, run long and super durable and at 600lumens for 10hrs out to 450ft they blow away Costco’s Duracell and Feit flashlights. I have them in vehicles and house.
Some of my coworkers at have the new Lenser 2500lumen headlamps, they look like a car hiking up a mountain at night.

I've had just about every brand of flashlight over the years and now really only use Surefire and Streamlight. The Surefires have never let me down. Ever. I use a Streamlight simply because its rechargeable and convenient and because there wasn't a Surefire in this size range that was rechargeable. I also have a few Mag C and D cells sitting around, but don't really use them anymore. I try to stay away from the imported illumination garbage "Just cuz."

Good idea. I twist the battery cover loose until light goes off, then i turn off switch. Seems to help Make them last.

Hey LR, Curious what you guys use to keep hands free for ordinance work? We wear blast suits for Hot work in High Voltage switchgear, we have Velcro headlamps on chest and hood.

Yep, i use the "lil larry" lights all over the shop all the time, especially when machining, and have them in my vehicles as well. They are awesome, batteries last a long time, and nice aluminum body.

The Duracells are great for the price. I have them in my trucks. Little Larrys are standard issue for all my fire fighters. I carry a Streamlight ProTac 2L X Very small, 500 lumens and rechargeable or 2 CR123A batteries

I’ve got this “Rigid” set, two flashlights and a driver and 2 regular batteries and one big battery. It’s probably 10 years old, can’t get compatible stuff or batteries anymore. It works great, I’ve left the light on all night in my garage, and it still is bright.

it’s light duty stuff, but I wish I could still get it. In the future I would get the head mounted lights, so much more useful.

Right on LR. Petzl always seems to be on leading edge with their product development. The “reactive lighting technology” sounds cool, curious how well it works.

I bought the Duracell lights when they were on sale last month. At under $20 for 3 of ‘em it was a bargain and I’ve got them by every outside door

Any down side to flipping all opposite polarity when stored?
Works on my LED light i use for charging glow in the dark lures.

I carry a flashlight everyday at work. I think the biggest leap in technology has been the ability to recharge the flashlights batteries. I'll never buy another CR123 battery, I'm done playing that game. My current light is a Fenix PD36R and it's rechargeable using a USB-C cable. The battery lasts forever, 1600 lumens and it's dimmable. It costs about a hundred bucks but well worth it.

I’ve heard reverse polarity can blow out LED lamps if they don’t have reverse polarity protection.
Other than that the only downside I can think of would be having to flip the batteries every time you use the flashlight. When I was in the service some of our field and survival manuals recommended reversing one battery when storing to prevent accidental turn ons or battery draining, but back then all we had were incandescent lamps In flashlights.

We use to use nothing but Streamlights but once we tried the Duracells we switched....100-150 per light vs less than 10.00 bucks per light when on sale at Costco you cant even compare them for the value. Once the reg batteries are done we put in rechargeables and are good to go...so far not one out of roughly 30 has gone bad or needed replacing even with lots of abuse....At first for the price I called them the throw away lights but after a year of abuse they are all still working great so they are our go to lights now.......JMO.

Daughter got me one of the Duracell lights from Costco for Christmas. I can't yet say how long the bats last but it is one of the brightest flashlights I've ever seen and I have a pretty good collection of lights (the wife says I have a fetish).

I have several of the Duracell flashlights. They work well. They will drain the batteries over time with the parasitic draw the electronics have. I too prefer the idea of the off the shelf batteries. Specially for emergency lighting. I have a hard enough time keeping my batteries charged for my drills, let alone some flashlights. When that happens you can't just run to just about ANY store and grab a couple of batteries.

I have Fenix TK 8??? It‘s 7-8 years old and still works well like all Fenix products.
Unfortunately I think Fenix has recently gotten infected with Trump Hyperbole Syndrome And are posting Inflated BS Numbers.
Take the PD 36R or PD40R for example. Almost Every page of brochure has * asterisk noting performance based on conditional numbers. Their brochure might say 1600 lumens for 2.5hrs, but thats just the setting, as the battery draws down the light will dim, so you really only have lets say 45 mins at full 1600 lumens. Or Fenix might say the light lasts 17 days on low setting.(*thats based on a 5 hour day). In continental US our nights aren’t limited to only 5 hours of darkness. Or flashlight weighs less than iPhone 11, with flashlight batteries removed. Who makes flashlight comparisons with batteries removed? Fenix makes great stuff, don’t know why they feel need to embellish numbers and taint their reputation.

Get a Nebo flashlight on Amazon. They are sold with both 18650 batteries and AAA batteries. I have one of each. Brighter than shit and good quality.

I bought the 3 pack of Duracell lights, keep one in each nightstand, one by the back door so my wife can put the ducks to bed. The light she uses every night is still on the original batteries after at least 3 months, still going strong.

no problems. I did not know about the "electronics" draining the battery problem? I should check the battery voltage and see.

Have purchased several Streamlite flashlights over the years. Use them at work every day for multiple hours. Probably more use than most people will in a year and a lifetime warranty. Made in China but hard to avoid that these days. Did buy the Duracell Costco flashlights once, didn't last long. Actually returned them.

Ended up ordering the FEIT flashlights from Costco. I received them today and they appear to be well made and are extremely bright for a AAA battery light. Only time will tell on longevity of the batteries.

I'm not current with all the led light fad, got a few but I'm certainly not experiencing any battery drain due to the electronics. Mostly because at least as far as I know, at least on mine, there's a contact switch involved in the circuit, it's either open or closed. Are some of these lights using solid state, semi-conductor switching ?

Yep. They all are Taboma. The basic open or closed Switched incandescent lamp used in our basic *MAGLITES is long gone.
Pretty much All LEDs have some sort of SS resistor circuitry incorporated and by adding multi levels of power, dimming, strobes, red/green, spot, flood, etc... Damn, even the ”simple” ones get complicated real fast...

*FYI MAGLITE was founded by Tony MAGlica in 1970‘s Ontario, California. Maglight is still American made and still headquartered in Ontario.

I have a shit ton of these, around the house, cars, bikes, boats, etc. Never had a problem with any of them, nice not having to buy batteries and the cigarette lighter charger is great for the ones in the cars.
