Giving my 5 year old son a “real” RC car this Christmas. He’s out grown out of the basic ones and is getting really good at it so it’s time to step up. Now when we go out to the desert he won’t get it stuck on rocks and stuff.

This one goes about 25-30 MPH stock. I got a slower motor and regeared it. It goes about 10 MPH now so he can learn and grow into it.

Funny thing is I was selling this same RC car to people 20+ years ago at my first job in the hobby shop. I still remember the part numbers of the parts prone to breaking. Funny the things you remember. I bought all those parts to have on hand and did a couple other mods to it.

Really can't go wrong with Traxxas, a 2s lipo and geared that low he'll be able to drive it for a long time. The brushless, maybe even the brushed has a setting in the ESC for kids so you don't have to regear it.

My wife has been needing a new commuter car, she commutes about 60 miles to work and back, so she puts a lot of miles on cars, we played with the idea of getting her an electric car but I am not sold on that idea, and besides I didn't want to spend $40-$50k on a commuter that would literally go to work and back and sit in the driveway on weekends, so I bought her this for Christmas, she doesn't know it yet, I just hope it gets here in time:

Yea Traxxas are pretty solid these days. This is the brushed one and I’m just using NIMH, no Lipo. I went with the NIMH because all my old stuff in the rafters uses it, and I have a feeling that might be coming down. Have a few good NIMH chargers already too.

It is in the 50% trainer mode, and I bought a 27 turn motor to slow it down. I also added a 12 tooth pinion from the stock 16 tooth and a got a motor plate that allows you to set your own gear mesh instead of the locked factory setup.

I think the battery may last 20+ minutes like this, we will see.

I shot this pic. at Lake Mojave of my Pops and had it printed on metal 11"x17" on a 'floating mount' . . couldn't wait till Christmas.
He already hung it in his kitchen ! 😂 . . . so I guess that means he likes it.

A Stamped was my first RC car as well, man did I love that thing and I’m sure your kid will too. I still remember buying it about 20 years ago from a Hobby place in Orange which I believe shut down, my dad told me it was for my “cousin” but then later the Easter bunny brought it LOL. He actually just recently sent me a pic of it as he was cleaning out his garage.

I bought my 2.5 year old a Stacyc electric bike, MX helmet, and gloves. I’ve never been so excited for Christmas as an adult. I will also be going to get my little brother a nice starter watch, he just graduated high school 6 months early while working 40-60 hours a week and couldn’t deserve it more.

My dad bought me a stampede for my first “real” RC car. A few days later he went and got himself the same one. It was a blast running them together.

I get far more enjoyment out of watching my kids open stuff than I ever have receiving anything. That bike is cool as hell, where did you get it from?
Temecula Motorsports, but any similar place should have them. They have a 12” and 16” model. Some kids rip on these things, it’s pretty impressive how good the little guys are getting.

Wife’s 50th birthday is this year. Her birthday is 12-22 so it sucks being so close to Xmas. We were supposed to do a big vacation trip but with my nephew being diagnosed with cancer we put it all on hold.

She’s been wanting one for a while and I have been fighting her on it so she thinks it’s not a possibility. Lol.

Our delivery got picked back so it won’t be ready for her actual birthday. But she has no clue so it will be a shocker for her.

Dang havent heard of that hobby shop in years....its still around? I used to go there all the time years and years ago.
Still around, they moved down the street to where Howard's appliance store used to be. I here it's bigger store, and the track is inside now. I stay away so I don't blow a wad of money on stuff.

Yep they moved. I haven’t been over there since they moved to the old Howard’s location.

We tried to make that a “world class” track at the old location, but the owner didn’t want to spend any more money, didn’t want the hobby shop to stay open late for racing, etc. I remember the ADA modifications they had to do to turn that old LA Fitness pool into an RC track circa 2000 were like $100k above the original estimate for constructing the track.

Yeah I was looking at the address and I don't remember it being there so it threw me off a bit.....man I used to have a Tamiya Frog that I tried for many years to keep running and Pegasus was the only shop that routinely kept parts for it...eventually I gave up, but I think it still have that car somewhere...

No idea what we got my kids, grandkids or anyone else. Wife does it all. We just exchange stockings. Think I’ll get her fishnet one’s. Hope we don’t get each other the same thing 😱

Change of plans....went into the hobby shop with intentions to pick up the Rustler....but I just happened to be in the store when they were putting out the new Traxxas WideMaxx out on the shelf that had just been released, and I couldn't pass it up....so my son is getting this for xmas now.

I bought one of those in the late 80's. That thing was endless fun and broken parts were easy to replace.

For the life of me I don't remember what happened to it. o_O

My hard-earned money went to Phenix rods this year. Bought a beautiful travel rod for my Dad and a new spinning rod for my older son. For the first time in FOREVER, I didn't buy one for myself! 😲 I also donated some money to Mrs. Davis for some new threads. If you know, then you know. 😎

I'll be looking for a new RMR after Christmas, so I figured I'd better save some dough until then.

we got my kid the slash a couple months ago for turning 4. we got tired of the cheap target RC cars and I had a RC-10 growing up. These are much better especially with the lithium batteries. When we went camping pretty much every kid was driving it around all day and it was on a single battery. It lasts forever.
