Been having issues with the air compressor at work. Tried to get it fixed but we just seem to be throwing money at it. Boss said get it replaced. Does anyone on here do that kind of work? Recommend anybody? Getting a quote from general air and thermal air.

I’d call haranga compressor out of chino. We’ve used them for 25 years great people. We use CP compressors.

30Hp isn't going to be cheap. Maybe look into a screw compressor. I have an ingersol Rand and love it.
I don’t think that’s a 30 horsepower.
I think more like a 10. I see the 3-30HP S but that motor isn’t big enough for 30 HP.

Yep

Unless it’s a 300 gallon tank for scale, that ain’t a 30hp motor. Doesn’t look much bigger than my 5hp.

Before anyone can make any suggestions, it would be helpful to know what you use compressed air for. Couple of blow guns? Plasma tables? Blast cabinets? What are your air requirements?

Like, what kind of issues?

Does it need a motor, or a compressor unit?

And what would a Carpenters training center be doing with a massive compressor like this? Hopefully not teaching guys residential wood framing.....lol

Pretty much

All of my booths get air to blow out the filters. Original problem was it wasn’t shutting off ever so they’ve rebuilt it twice now and now it won’t get much pressure built up at all. The vertical lines are air and the horizontals running across the booths

Mike Caffrey he is the owner
He’s working on the quote. I think I met him once in whitter. He had some really nice cowboy boots on which seems like an odd thing to remember but I like boots.

wait....you have filters to capture shit out of the air everyone breathes....then you leave them in place in the booths and have air lines handy to blow all the shit the filters capture back into the air everyone breathes?

I'll let that question soak for a minute....

I didn’t design or build the booths but yes. This is probably 1/2 million dollar set up. And yes thermal air is union and rebuilt them. I’m trying to avoid using thermal air anymore

Tag on Baldour motor looks like it's a 10 HP.

I agree with the screw. We have a few Kaiser compressors and they are awesome. Screws are quiet too.
I use Accessorie Air here in OC.

I'm not saying anything bad about the union, I know better. But the reputation isn't too sus when you yourself are trying to move away from using a union company, Thermal Air, noting your post above.

Kaiser Screw compressor is for sure a solid option. a few of my buddies have bought screw compressors from Eastwood and been happy.

Honestly the problem is everyone see’s carpenters union on the building and the price goes way up. I’ve have horrible luck with both union and non union shops. Even getting call backs is tough. It’s a different world we are living in

So I don’t know much about compressors but our shop has air in every column and the tool room etc. I’ve been told it’s a large system.

I know you did work at my UNION hall. And we have done work at other halls. Check with the pipe fitters or boilermakers hall. They may need a class project. 😆

I don’t give a shit how nice the booths are…if you’re blowing out the filter in place, what’s the point?

Scrap the compressor and scrap the filters too, since neither serves any productive purpose.

It takes a special kind of fucktard to maintain this practice of doing things…

What you’re doing is effectively turning a vacuum cleaner bag inside out to clean it and blowing all the shit back into the air.

If you don’t see the problem with that, you’re an idiot.

Huh? Do you understand the purpose of filter?

Edit: Isn't the whole point of a union to create better conditions for the workers? Explain to me how this creates better conditions for the workers? It doesn't. It makes everything worse and exposes workers to greater hazards. Might as well scrap the compressor, the filters, and the union....the workers will be better off.

You’re not understanding the way it works. Look at the picture of the booths. Look at the users manual. The filters are enclosed. The compressed air knocks the big stuff out and it lands in these trays that I take out and empty. It’s not rocket surgery

run a finger across the intake grill on that exhaust fan....if it changes color, I'll stand by my statements. If not, I'll apologize and go sit in my corner.

Not hating on the unions. My brother just retired from the caroenters union.

As far as your compressor need. My Dad owned his own business where he was sold compressors and vacuum pumps. He sold it to a company called Yardley.
I remember the main line of large scale compressors he sold was EG&G Rotron
I'm sure I can get you a contact at Yardley of you need it

Damn I honestly thought these would be worse too. They are dirty though. It’s honestly similar to a heppa vac. The filter pounds itself clean. The Hilti shop vac is a perfect example

Has anyone checked the compressor pressure power switch? Sounds like that could be the issue. Its usually in a box where the power comes into the motor, or close.

They said this box was the issue. They’ve replaced it twice. I don’t know it this is what you are talking about but this is how I turn it off and on

If it is now turning off but now building less pressure. There is a tention adjuster in the switch that you can adjust.

Yes. The black line running in is a pressure line or it's running off of the tank maybe it looks like. Pull the cover and there will be a screw with a spring on it. Tighten that screw and it will increase the shut off pressure.

Yes, that black box. pull the one screw and take the cover off. I bet there is a tension screw underneath it.

I think it’s the spring in the last pic with a tiny set screw down in the tube I’m assuming tightens or loosens

That one or the one of them in the center. One of them has to adjust the switch. With out turning it on and watching the operation of the switch I cant tell you which is the adjustment on that one. But one of them has to be it🤷🏻‍♂️ it was probably bolted on out of the box and it fix the initial problem(not turning off) but it was never adjusted for pressure.

Sounds like that isn't plumbed properly. Look at the open 90 with a loose Farrel on the left side of the switch. If that blowing air bingo. Make sure that switch is only getting head pressure. Some models will t that back to the case.
