What’s everyone’s opinion on PPF? Bought a new truck for roadtrips and can’t decide if I want to spend the $ on PPF.

I know it can’t hurt but so many other goodies I could buy for the $2500.

Thoughts?

Have it on the wife's Suburban, two Harleys and a sports car. Definitely worth it IMO. I accidently hit my CVO Harley with a pipe and all I had to do was replace the piece of film that was damaged. It saved the paint.

I had it on a car that I bought as a CPO when in 2015. I was very skeptical about it then. It held up very well until I sold it in 2019. I have since put it on every single vehicle I've bought in the last 4 years.

We did the wife’s 23 Lexus NX450H+ to save the front and it has done it job nicely. If it’s a vehicle you give a shit about I’d say do it. We had the Gator Wrapz folks do it and tint the front windows. I wish we had done the front of our the 13 Cayenne..after a few road trips it got dotted. IMG_7932.jpeg

Have it on my wifes 2011 acadia since new. It's lived outside for 164k miles.Definitely saved the paint. It colected some dirt on the top edge of the hood, yellowed a little and got a few dull spots from trying to get knarly bugs and sap scrubbed off. Id do it again though

I have it on my truck since it has painted bumpers. I have a scratch on it deep enough it won't self heal, so I need to have the bumper re done, but at least I won't need to have it painted.

On the flip size, my father law bought a Phaeton with the front done in PPF that had been left on there too long. it's cracking and everyone is afraid to remove it for fear of removing the paint.

I'll add that it sees 5-6 months a year of snowy roads that get heavily sanded.

Do it, then ceramic coat over the clear bra.
Agree. If you’re going to wash it correctly, I’d go this route. If you’re going to send it through the drive through car washes, I wouldn’t bother.

I’m very disappointed. I was really expecting different content in this thread.
No kidding. Next we will be coordinating clear bras on our trucks so we do not show up wearing the same thing, that nobody can see.

Something about my truck, how does my bra look............................I has a confused.........

Well worth it if you plan on driving a lot of highway miles. Our last commuter car didn't have it and it looked like someone took a buckshot to the front of it. The car we did it on does not have a single chip in the paint. We had the entire front end done for $2200

I had it on our hyundai palisade and then just installed the partial front kit again on my new 24 gmc at4. This has been a great option and all pre cut ready to go, I use the 10year hydrophobic option film and its worked great in the past. Saved myself plenty of dough installing it myself but i had years of vinyl and graphics installation in my past so it wasnt that bad.

I have seen quotes to have it installed around 400 - 500 bucks if you didnt want to do it.

I’d seriously consider it Jeff. Our truck has low miles but the chips of the large front paint stick out to me. I just keep it dirty with a lot of bugs to hide the paint chips. 🤪 🤪 🤪 Truck loos great BTW

Do you cover the whole car or just the front?
Depends how much you want. The wife's Suburban has the leading edge of the hood, grill and all painted areas around the grill, front bumper, mirrors and A-pillars. Anything that is susceptible to chipping.

Thanks. What does ceramic coating do over that? Does it make a different?

I just had XPEL PPF installed on the Denali, so far so good. It wasn't a full wrap and tuck, so there are seams if you go looking for them otherwise it is pretty invisible. No change to appearance or shine. I don't sweat road rash and scrubbing bugs off the finish, anymore.

Full front bumper, chin splitter, headlights, Mirror caps and mirror stalks, $950, and then I added a basic detail, out the door was $1300.00.

We have it on my wife's X5 and have been happy with it. There were a few spots that took good hits that wouldn't self heal, but the one we got had I think a 5 year warranty so they replaced it. I will say, if you're going to do it, try to get one where the sheet that is being installed covers the entire panel that it's being installed on. Have seen a few with them halfway up the hood or halfway up the doors, they look fine when brand new but as they start to age dirt and grime will start to work its way under the adhesive on the edge and it will become very obvious. I left one on to long on my 07 Tundra. It cracked something fierce. I took it off piece by piece. Do it on a warm day. I used a little alcohol to help the stubborn areas.

Best part is, the today's new stuff basically heals itself. You get hit with a small rock today, it dings the film instead of the paint and it's gone in a day or two. I have it on my truck and wife's GV80. My wife's vehicle cost $1100 and included 24" on the hood and fenders, head lights, side mirrors and the complete front end (everywhere there is paint). Every new vehicle we get, gets a bra.
