So I just had a buddy of mine hit me up and see if I wanted to join and become an Observer.

Anyone else here a member of the Civil Air Patrol?

I need to pull another couple days out of my ass each week to get everything done that I want to, let alone volunteering for something.

Anyone have any insight?

I had friends do that when we were in high school. It is actually a neat program for kids looking to get into aerospace extra curricular activities. They have a post here in havasu and when my boys get older I'd like to see them give it a shot

Yes my buddy said they have a post there. He knows it’s just a matter of time before we relocate to Havasu.

I used to be, was a mission pilot and flew on quite a few searches. Overall it's a good organization but there are a few, interesting, people who all had big hearts. My dad is still involved but says the number of SAR missions isn't like it used to be. Most people have either some sort of ePIRB or in many cases a cell phone. I guess CAP has a group that can nearly pinpoint people based on last known cell phone hit.

I was in it as a kid, that was 40 years ago. I say do it, great way to introduce young people to flying and other skills.

Holy Moly's son worked that program. May still be involved in some aspect of it however its been many years now.
