Anyone have an inside scoop of what is going on with Cheetah Boats? A good friend of mine just started legal action to get his deposit back on a new build after months of no progress, no answers and no returned emails or phone calls.

I hope there is some kind of explanation since they have been in business so long but it sounds like there are about 4-5 other people in this same situation.

I know, I know, another one of these threads. I hate to post this but maybe it will help anyone else out there who might be working with them.

Haven’t heard anything? Cheetah Bob has always just kind of run his own program forever and you don’t hear much about them on social media or the forums. He’s been one of the most successful boat builders ever though.. cheap & volume.

I will say I have seen the same hulls sitting outside his shop for years now though..

Maybe he ran out of drywall screw's and duct tape.

Home Depot went out of biz? Lol

Seriously though.. I am kinda surprised to read the thread because while the boats were lower end I have never heard of a bad deal with Bob.

I just drove by there on the way to the refuge. Those same hulls were outside and the place was open for biz.

We are hearing that some of the issues may be from others running things with Bob doing less. My friend just wants to get his $ back quickly without it costing him allot. He already put down another deposit with a different company so he can hopefully have a boat before summer.

Why does everyone blame the manufacturer for reliability?

Yet to see anyone say the hull left them stranded. 99 out of 100 its the engine that left you stranded.

Yeah I never really got that either, unless it’s rigging related.

all I can say is you get what you pay for...attention to detail isn't cheep,I don't think cheetah has done the lay up on their hulls for years, pretty much all they do is the rigging as power come from merc.. A Cheeptah is not gonna have the attention to detail for 62k when the other boats like it are 120k..but, when I was there I upped the steering to full hydraulic ,the guys that do advantage hulls did the layup, and the trailer I ordered with triple axel..some of the stuff they do is out of habit, and wouldn't cost much more to do better,I personaly use drywall screws a lot, but I'm a drywaller... can't say there is none in sues boat, but I have yet to see them... every thing on her boat is stainless threw bolted...I can also say this,... never had a problem with BOB as far as $$$$..but, I think he's pretty much at the end of the road as far as keeping the business going,.
the wildcat is a pretty nice running deck and goes pretty fast for what it is..could be an opportunity for an invester that wants to go in business as they have some pretty good molds..

Calm down...takes at least 7 years for drywall screws to dissolve.
so people who live on the coast should have their homes re screwed every 5 or 6 years??? interesting.... might be a good business to go into, Chicken little's screw replacement" the sky is falling...lol

I also wanna say this,....at this day in age,... why the hell do they use plywood to make boat seat frames???? and even worse IMHO...seat bottoms....There can't be an ASTM with that plan....

I heard they are the fastest Mofos on the water. :)

Plywood can work well if its covered with glass. Not sure if coating it with resin is good enough.

yeah, but all that work to make it work.... why not just up the quality and logivity to a better material to start with..

I build homes and want to always start with a good foundation ..nice level good concrete makes for a nice level good home that you can enjoy for years to come.. I've replaced a lot of wood seats in boats....but, I'll have say,.... I used wood as it was the easiest and fastest to get done..

I will say this there is more then one way to skin a cat that applies to boats too obviously the way Cheetah has done it must work because they have been around more then most. They are not my cup of tea but a great entry level custom boat no doubt about it!

Cheetah has seemed to run a solid boat business forever, regardless of what people say about budget build quality or screws. I think the OP should post up the details about the new build order, perhaps the buyer had some unrealistic expectations on starting a new build close to boating season, and when he could expect to see it done?

Prior to you banning 2FF. When Steve was gone, it never came up. Still think Sue has one of the best Cheetah decks ever built.
