Thought you guys would get a kick out of this.

I applied for my CCW with the LA County Sheriffs office September of 2022. When I completed the initial application at the police station, the sheriff said “don’t ask me how long it’s going to take, I have no idea.” He was being a prick, but I get it. He deals with losers all day.

Today at 2:30pm, 2 f*cking years later, I FINALLY GOT THE CALL to complete the process.

Unbelievable.

I know. I know… SoCal Sux! 🤣

Yeah few of my buddies have LA County CCW's as well. Ventura County has been pretty good now that the old Sheriff is gone, I've heard this a couple of times. Got my Shield 9 ready to go just have to go do it.

Sounds like my initial Riverside County CCW application. Previous Sheriff didn’t like to give them out and it wasn’t until he realized that he was about to lose his re-election to Bianco that he started pumping out permits. Only took about 3 weeks to process from when my investigator called.

I pulled my OC application when I heard about Senate Bill 2 . . . it will basically make it that even with a CCW you basically can't legally carry anywhere.
You can't even be in the parking lots of these 'Sensitive' locations . . . and there's a TON of them.
To me, not only was it going to be a hassle . . .but a big waste of time, effort and money by the time I got done with the training, fee's, applications, qualifying, interview etc. etc. only to not be allowed to carry anywhere . . . what's the point?

If this state ever gets its act together, (not holding my breath) then I'll reapply.

Until then, if things go really south for some reason and I need to carry, . . . . well I'm not even sure if it's a misdemeanor in CA anymore . . .

(edit) . . . one of the new CA Laws requires 'BUSINESSES' yes the actual business itself, who wish to allow CCW holders inside to post a sign of certain size, shape, color, font, etc. etc. at the entrance of the property /establishment stating that only legally permitted firearms are allowed inside. So what the state has forced the businesses to do is to get openly involved in 2A politics by stating 'We Are CCW Friendly'.
I have only seen 1 of these signs here in Huntington Beach . . . and wouldn't you guess, it was at the Barber Shop my Dad goes to.

Stores like Sprouts, Whole Foods, Trader Joes etc. etc. . . . all have signs stating 'Firearms Are Not Permitted'. But those signs aren't required by the state. . . those left -leaning businesses take it upon themselves to post them. . . . shocking.

It's pretty simple, you should just get it. Makes transportation of arms ( that we lost in a boating accident ) much easier. Also nice to be legal while driving across the open desert on or Offroad.

I’ve had mine in Ventura county for 6 years now. Through both Ayub and Fryhoff. Haven’t seen a difference. Initial took about 8-9 months. Renew is shorter

This is EXACTLY what these liberal assholes want members of our society to do. They intentionally make it SO difficult to even apply, that people just throw their hands up in the air and "Give up." That's considered a "Win" in their eyes as it's one less citizen who will provide any resistance. We can't give in and we can't let them use the rules against us. It's in our best interest to continue to fight and stick to our guns, for lack of better terminology.

I'm waiting for the "Buy backs" to start up again, just like they recently had in Hawaii. The coordinators of those programs will simply increase the dollar amount so much, that people will be happy to give up their arms for a stupid gift card.

Whatever is left from your boating accidents.......never give them up. Ever.

It's the exact opposite here. Businesses that wish to ban firearms on the premises must post that same specified sign with certain verbiage.

If I carried a concealed weapon, I would probably ignore the sign anyway.

Bianco is the best Sherriff ever. Quite the story about the previous piece of shit sheriff. He literally stuck Bianco in the filing room in Riverside for years because he hated him so much and probably feared that he would take his job.

Yeh that sb2 from what I have seen kind of makes a ccw pointless. Where you really
Need to carry you ain’t allowed to. Ca is so anti gun even if a law is struck down they make a new one that is similar the next month and start the court fight all over again.

They know how to use the courts or should I say keep the laws tied up in court so they stay in place til decided. Rinse repeat.

I came close to letting mine go but decided to go ahead and renew. Pretty much not legal to carry anywhere, nor is it legal to use deadly force in any situation in CA at this point.

My boss posted these outside our shop doors during the whole rona BS.

Exactly. I was spoiled when living in PHX, driving around with a loaded firearm in my centerconsle legally was something I missed moving back to CA.

First one I got in Indiana took a couple of weeks in the late 90s - The process changed later and became much quicker as well as they offered lifetime carry permits after I moved away.

In NC had to take a class, go get finger printed bringing your class paperwork, quick back ground check and you have it.

In Alabama, walk into Sheriffs office, in and out within 10 minutes with carry permit - They have since changed the law to no permit required. I got a chuckle when I got it here. Walked in right as they were reopening from lunch - About 10-15 people in the room, I know I shouldn't judge people but they all looked on the shady side. Lady walks out of the office, looks around, looks at me and says what are you doing here. I told her why I was there, come on back I'll get you taken care of. Everyone else had walked in before me.

I have my OC ccw. It was a pretty simple process and took around 6 months. From the way my instructor explained it to me basically if a business has a no guns signs it’s more of a right to refuse service not an illegal place to carry a gun if that makes sense. I would rather not give those places my business anyways. As far as places it’s illegal to carry, federal or state property, schools, amusement parks, hospitals, airports, public events like rallies or concerts. I carry every day and lock my gun in my truck if I happen to go into any of the illegal places. And the only time your ccw can ever be drawn is in a life threatening event and you must shoot directly at them and intend to wound or kill. Pretty wild learning everything when you go through the classes and what you have to actually do in the event of your life or your loved ones life being in danger. No brandishing or warning shots, that will get you straight in jail, shoot to hit and injure or kill and you still have a fight ahead of you to stay out of jail if that does happen. I knew this going in but the instructor hammered it into everyone’s brain, you don’t get a ccw to be the hero on the news when your somewhere and something bad is happening, you get it to protect your life and your loved ones lives and that’s it. I carry everyday and now it’s one of the things I feel weird if I don’t have, almost like if I don’t have my phone in my pocket.

That’s not exactly true. It’s up to the local Sheriffs and prosecutors to make that determination. Up in NorCal when people justifiably use deadly force they are not prosecuted.

I was shocked at the different people that were in my training classes. Not so much shady looking people but every day looking housewife’s were in there and the really odd ones were total liberal people in my class and there were multiple. I didn’t talk to many and I was profiling but if it looks like a duck and quacks like duck it’s probably a duck lol

2024 UPDATE (SB 2)

THE "BAN CONCEALED CARRY EVERYWHERE" BILL
Update 09/06/2024:
in Carralero v. Bonta, the Ninth Circuit has upheld the preliminary injunctions against the following carry bans (meaning they remain unenforceable) for certain areas. This is only a preliminary injunction; the appeals process continues.
Picture

Okay to carry at:
  • Hospitals and medical facilities
  • Public transit
  • Permitted assemblies (like festivals and parades)
  • Places of worship (churches)
  • Banks and financial institutions
And their attached parking areas.
The rule about private businesses needing "guns okay" sign is also stayed.

Picture

No guns zones in effect are:
  • Bars and restaurants that serve alcohol
  • Playgrounds, parks, and zoos
  • State parks
  • Casinos
  • Stadiums
  • Libraries and museums
And their attached parking areas.

SB 2 briefly went into effect, but as of 01/06/2024, it has been stayed, meaning that until the federal courts rule otherwise, the SB 2 restrictions are not in effect. See above for the Carralero locations update.

Your instructor told you to shoot to kill?
I have been told in every class I've taken in three states that you "shoot to stop the threat." That doesn't mean try to shoot them in the leg. If you say you intended to kill in court, you're likely going to be unhappy with the result. Feel free to do what you have to do, but that's not what I was taught, and it's not my mindest because of it.

BTW, this is the wording that I heard Kyle Rittenhouse use repeatedly in his defense. He intended to "stop the threat."

Just kind of a blanket statement. I hope to never have to use my firearm. I'll just leave it at that.

I took a class last Sunday. To stop a threat is the words that were used. This is the scenario of how the aggressor can become the victim. And the victim the aggressor and were self defense leaves the chat

My class was last week. I learned to shut the fuck up.

Bought insurance and they gave me the bat line phone number. Saved it in my phone and my wife’s phone. Told the wife to read the pamphlet and if shit ever happens to shut the fuck up and call the number I saved in her phone.

Yes you are correct. Shoot to stop threat is the correct way but when does the threat stop? When he is on the ground? When he no longer has a weapon? When he is no longer moving? It’s all very blanket. And his exact words to say to anyone is “ I was in fear for my life and I did nothing wrong” and then we call the instructor and call a lawyer and do not say another word. He is retired law enforcement and has been training police departments all over the country for 30 years. I hope and pray to never have to even pull mine out a holster

Yup I did the exact same and told my wife the exact same. “We were in threat of our lives and did nothing wrong” shut the fuck up and not another word

LA County is the worse, and they require an 8 hour class every other year to keep it.

When the current LA County Sheriff was LBPD chief he threatened to not approve my CCW on my last day of work, 30 years at LBPD, because i had an open IA case. He's a douche.

I've been told this also applies to San Bernardino County. Being a member of the HR 218 Club, it doesn't matter to me.

I had my OC CCW for a long time. Jumping thru the hoops every two years was certainly a pian in the ass. They make you reapply like from scratch on their website. I found my folders over the past years when I was moving each time I had to apply and all the bullshit evidence I had to provide. I was like, "So glad that its over!"

👆🏻this.

Same process here. I have a use of force “bible” at home for the wife with step by step directions from my lawyer who’s on retainer already through USCCA. Keep in mind stopping a threat, doesn’t apply to only times when a firearm is used. 🤔

When I was thinking about getting my CCW the one thing I have heard and read from people that have theirs is now that you went thru the course and know the laws of carrying you now pretty much can't use it, kind of like was said above, without getting in trouble. Kind of like if you have a DUI and had to take the course if you then get in an accident after and someone dies you can now be charged with murder because you took the class and know the dangers. Seems like playing stupid and shooting someone to save you and/or your family without a CCW might be better in CA.

This is how I have always felt. You're held more accountable with a CCW than just a guy with a gun that didn't know any better.

If you are considering laws or repercussions as your drawing your weapon you shouldn’t be drawing in the first place.

^^^this! Too many people think about this in context of "can I shoot someone if they do X." Your CCW is not a hunting license. No matter how justified a use of force is, there are absolutely going to be mental/emotional/legal repercussions that you should be prepared for. So only use force if the outcomes of you NOT using that force are so bad, that they are unfathomable and make the mental/emotional/legal repercussions worth it to take on. This normally means death/great bodily hard to you and/or your loved ones is imminent.
