Yes, I've had two, one each eye, it is nothing to worry about and recovery is very quick...You should get a few choices about the replacement lens. Listen carefully and make you decision. The first time I went with a "Restore" brand lens touted to bring 20-20 vision back...Well it came close, but no 20-20. $2400. out of pocket and after having the standard lens in the second one, the Restore wasn't worth it.. I assume you are going to a reputable eye surgeon, with good insurance... Not a place to cut corners...

My dad has both eyes done.
He’s worn coke-bottle-thick glasses his entire life.

With the new lenses they implanted to get rid of his cataract issue, he’s 20/20 now and no one recognizes him without his glasses...though he does need readers.

You guys are dumb...

The owner's wife here where I work just had it done. Pretty sure she's in her 40's.

Yes. Kaiser just built a whole new surgery center right off the 605 in Irwindale. It just opened this year, so everything is state of the art. One of my customers is a foot surgeon for Kaiser, and his whole team is being transferred there. He said it's bad azz inside.

This won't be costing my a dime. My wife has a great plan with Kaiser. I'm looking forward to getting it done, but I will ask about the replacement lens and find out what they will use. Thanks!

I’m 33 and have both done. You won’t feel a thing! Recovery is days. And you can drive next day. Be prepared for a lot of follow up appts for the next 3-6 months

Hey Joe
Have had my right eye done about 10 yrs ago. Left eye is scheduled for surgery assessment in August. It is very simple. It's just odd that you can kinda see what the doctor is doing. You will be surprised to actually see white as white again instead of cloudy yellow. You don't realize it till you have one done. Good luck.

Had both done. Don't wear glasses anymore except readers. Did experience a freak healing issue in the right eye called a macular edema.

Don't be a tease...
A build up of fluid in the eye that leads to a distortion of vision. Normally treated with eye drops until the fluid goes away but in my case it ultimately required another surgery which still didn't heal correctly. Been 3 years and right eye is still a little blurry from time to time.

I thought I was the only one. Same with my right eye, done 3 years ago. I haven't done my left eye, because I can live with blurry in one eye and don't want to chance the left eye. Tired of the 150 mile trips to the doctor all the time. Hope yours gets better.

well.. I am old.. respect the elderly.
I recently had a detached retina, surgury to repair was ok till I saw the procedure on you tube... scary. and catarac surgury next month. they also tried to up-sell me on the improved lenes but turns out there would be no benifit for me plus the pricing is outrageous. but am looking fwd to having all my vision back, even if its not perfect.

I just had emergency eye surgery for a detached retina with a single tear last week.Went in for a checkup at 2pm and was on operating table by 930p to get it fixed.Had symptoms of black floaters in my sight and flashes for over a week and doc said it needed to get repaired before permanent vision loss started happening.Glad I had it done.It happened in the same eye I had a cataract removed and lens implant put in 2 years ago.Guess I'm getting old too.

That’s scary shit...one of my eyes has some lattice degeneration and is susceptible to this.

Doc says if I get the symptoms you describe, to call her and get my ass to the ER ASAP.

Most of my parents have had them done. Most comment that they wished they had don’t it sooner. I remember my grandparents doing it back in the 80s and 90s. I’d say nothing to worry about it unless you are traveling to Mexico to have it done. Hell it’s not like your having brain surgery. Best of luck to you!!!!

Four weeks ago I had both eyes done at the same time. At Kaiser Ontario. Just finishing all the eye drops, a bigger hassle than the surgery. Let me tell You, I can see for miles and miles ! But now I need cheap readers to type this.

Had mine done a few years back and it’s like driving your old beater with sand blasted windshield to getting a new car. In and out come back 2 weeks later and do other eye. No more halos around lights at night and just use cheaters for reading. Not like you’re getting a vasectomy, although that was money well spent just should have done that many years back. Like high school.

I've been told there is a lens that will require no glasses but there is a 2% possibility to having halos. He recommended the lens that I will only need readers.

Scheduled to get my left eye done on April 18th and right eye done on May 2nd. I cannot wait to get this done and limit needing glasses.
I got mine done last summer and it's wonderful not having to wear glasses to enjoy the tv or to drive.
Also since I rarely wore glasses around when working outside, I can now recognize the neighbor who's wishing me a good morning or waving as they walk past. 😁
Despite so many advantages, I'm back to wearing lo-power readers for performing closeup detail work or reading some things. During my late 40's, 50's, 60's, always needed readers, but as my eyes had changed and I started losing distance vision, I no longer needed readers.
Glad I hadn't tossed them all. 😂
The tricky part is selecting the lens option that best fits 'Most' of your needs and is a viable option for your particular eye variables.
I was striving for TV, driving, boating, essentially distance, but also the ability to use my desktop computer most of the time without the aid of glasses.
Doc and I agreed and settled on J&J Technis Synergy for one eye and Techis Symfony for my other. One being better for distance, the other had a wider range and better for computer work.
Since those upgraded lens weren't covered by Medicare, I think it was around $4K more. The Synergy
I'd say mission accomplished, as distance is beautiful and I can use my computer the vast majority of the time without the aid of my readers. I do however need the readers to Text or read a magazine or newspaper.
The protective plastic lens they wanted worn for a day or two, then several more nights was a bit of an annoyance. I also found since the vision of the eye with the new lens was blurry for a few days, blacking out that lens on my glasses to avoid using that eye until it had started to clear, worked best for me.

The one negative of the multi-focal lens is that they tend to have a halo effect with bright lights at night. I don't do a lot of night driving and I've grown more used to it. Also initially I had a butt-load of floaters in both eyes, at times it felt like I was being attacked by a swarm of gnats, yes I tried to swat a few 🤣.
They've either gone away or I've become accustomed to swarming gnats because I rarely notice them now.

Anyway, so glad I did it. 👍👍👍

With my cataracts I had Starbursts, looking across the nightly lights at the city looked like fireworks. Now those lights are crystal clear, but driving at night I get halos, although it's getting better after several months.

My eyes aren't perfectly round, so no corrective eye ball lenses for me.

Just have some good prescription readers now. All is well. There was absolutely zero pain involved!

I would see funny shit out of the corner of my eye for a few weeks after. That eventually all went away.

Good luck! 👍🏼

had mine done last fall, could only get one range correction, but the improvement in my vision is fantastic easy and well worth it Iam 81 years old and because the deuteration is so gradual you don't realize how drastic it is, colors are now bright en clear get it done .

Some very valid input from inmate experiences. All I will add after being in Ophthalmology for 30 years (2 years in cataract diagnostic med device) is there are many new lenses just getting FDA approval and more to come. There is going to be some extraordinary technology that should give most everyone good quality of vision for the back half of our lives. Many well to do individuals are now electing to do a IOL (inner ocular lens) lens exchange well before the development of a full cataract due to this technology and the quality of life it provides. If an ophthalmologist tells you that you aren't a good candidate for the technology and you have good corneas, it could just be that they aren't confident or experienced enough with the newest technology and you might opt to seek a second opinion. Believe it or not "Dry Eye" conditions dictate what choices would be best for you. If you have been diagnosed with dry eyes any competent surgeon will address and resolve this first as it is crucial to the technology, options and outcomes. Good luck!

I will talk with my doctor/surgeon on Tuesday when they do the ultrasound for the lens size. I really would like to get the one where I will not need glasses but am sort of hesitant with the risk of halos at night. I do drive occassionally at night and worried that might be a problem.

I know this is a 5 year old thread. But I had the right eye done a month ago for distance only due to a retinal problem. I had the left eye done yesterday for distance and reading. I could have waiting, but I wanted to get it done now. I can now read and type on my phone / IPad without any glasses for the first time in years. Surgery was easier then a colonoscopy. 😜

And you don’t need to prep for most of the day and end up with a sore exit orifice either.
