The setup was wierd for sure , funny part is the owner says It sounded OK Wzuber I dont know I'll see if I have a photoOnly the bottom gears were damaged? That oil looks pretty nasty so maybe a combination of things including heat, probably damaged morso by incorrect gear lash. The way the teeth are broken it appears maybe the gears were improperly shimmed too? You can run left hand gears in a right hand box as long as the lash is sufficient. They may be a little more noisy but with quality lubrication and proper setup they will work. What class of circle race boat was this in?

Nice Kid , pretty Boat savvy He had just bought the boat and had a small amount of seat time but He like Us were amazed it worked , Josh (my Son) found an article the addresses this (Left gears running backwards) says clearances are greater I'll find it and post it hereIt was being run like that?! Probably a dozen theories, but likely I feel the fact that use left-hand ears in a right hand application probably didn’t help. They claimed it when you do that you have to put extra clearance in them. There’s a bunch of weird shim in these things I used to do them on a regular basis until Andy Casale cut everybody’s discount and once that happened I went strictly to jet boats and gave up on the drives, yes on the spacers we pay attention. Those kinda all bets are off in this deal because it’s such a mess. Thanks for the input.I think you hit the nail on the head.

I’ve only seen one other set like this and it happened because the gear oil was totally water contaminated.
Mark all the spacers when you take it apart and check the gear lineup when you put it back together.
I have 50-60 spacers of different widths that can be machined to make it right.
I’ll bet that box has been together for a long long time.
Also, the gears will be stamped LH or RH on the side with the ratio stamp.
I destroyed a set of upper gears in my bravo, I could afford the gears but not the install so I bought a couple books, a couple tools, made a couple tools and rebuilt it myself. It now has over 200hrs on the rebuild, I think I did goodMy c500 broke a few teeth off a set of 25 gears. Improper set up caused them to wear thin and then they were methed up. Rebuilt my self but am scared to take it out.
