Can-Am was ranked as the top UTV brand based on how salespeople interact with consumers, according to a UTV dealer survey from Pied Piper Management.

The study measures the treatment of UTV shoppers who visit franchise dealerships and ranks OEMs based on interaction with potential buyers. For example, the study tracks whether a salesperson offered a test drive or showed off the service department.

Of the 22 OEMs rated in the survey, Can-Am was ranked highest with an average score of 109. The highest possible score was 150.

Can-Am dealers were ranked among the highest in several categories that measure specific sales behaviors. On average, more than 60% of the time a dealer encouraged customers to sit inside the vehicle. Additionally, dealers asked for customer contact information more than 51% of the time.

“If you look at the individual dealer scores, it’s not uncommon to find dealers who nailed the sales process every single time a customer came in,” Fran O’Hagan, Pied Piper president and chief executive, told Powersports Finance. “They do it because they have a process that everybody follows religiously. The boss tells them, ‘Hey, when a customer is willing to spend time with us, we’re always going to do these three or four things that are important to us as a dealership.’”

Honda and Kawasaki were ranked second and third, respectively, while Mahindra and Polaris were tied for fourth. Polaris experienced the biggest year-over-year growth in the ranking, climbing eight points to 103. The increase is an example of an OEM finding areas in which dealers can improve and teaching them better sales behavior, O’Hagan added.

“A lot of times for the powersports industry, the value is just focusing the general manager or owner’s attention on the fact that their sales team doesn’t sell consistently,” O’Hagan said. “The salesperson does well one time, and the next time they don’t. It’s not that they’re doing something bad. It’s just far more common that they skip steps, either because they’re not aware that there are steps they should be following or they disqualify the customer [based on judgments].”

Most cases customers minds are already made up when they enter the dealer.
Their friends all have what they want or they are fed up with another brand.
Then,,, price point.
At least thats how the crews I roll with usually buy.

It really depends on the dealer and attitude. I had a 2008 RZR 800 before I switched to CanAm. Had nearly $8k in warranty work in the 4yrs of warranty. Dealer was great with me but the same dealer gave my buddy issues and denied some work for the same year/make unit. Having said that, I had my CanAm Maverick for 4yrs as well and it had $0 in warranty work.

That's what I was thinking, how do you do a survey by brand when the same dealer sells all the lines. Closest dealer to me has Can Am Yamaha and Polaris like a lot of dealers do and or Artic Cat. .

LOL: Well I went in to buy a RZR, but the Canned Ham salesman showed me the service dept and It made me feel so good I bought a Canned Ham. :D

You know something we don’t?

Someone told me they are putting a shiftable tranny in it here soon

No. That rumor has been swirling for awhile. To me that seems pretty unlikely. Maybe in a certain model, but not across the model range.

Warranty Work coverage may be about customers attitude.
Lose your head - your ass soon follows.
$8k easy on our RZR Turbo alone.
Polaris /aftermarket picked it all up.

YXZ buyers I know just want a Yamaha.
They don’t care if others have the better ride or power.
The newest YXZ is nice.
Suspension tweaks are getting good takes.

Ive only driven my new YXZ on the street but so far its a blast. No clutch and paddle shift is fun. I like picking a gear.

I like Yamaha after owning polaris stuff, crap how many 06-07 rhinos are still out there going strong. Plus its warrantied till late 2021.

Ride it and forget it. Its not my hobby to spend more time screwing with shit then using it :D

They were the best at a 72.6% (109 of 150)! Geeze, I could only imagine what the bottom rung was; these stats amaze me. These UTVs are either complete pieces of shit or people are super picky :D I assume it's the latter as people jump these things 75feet and expect them to hold up fine.

2008 was just a regular old 800cc no turbo. They replaced wheel bearings several times, rebuilt the motor, new frame, shock issues, steering issues. I cant remember what else, but it was at the dealer almost ever other month. I also actually used my toys back then and put about 5k miles on it in 4yrs with non of that "cruise around town" stuff.
