I know you guys make alot of money out there, but this is kind of steep !

"LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- By the end of the year, the typical auto insurance policy in California will reportedly be 54% more expensive than last year.

According to a new report published by insurance tracker Insurify, the cost of full coverage across the U.S. increased by 28% between June 2023 and June 2024 - but some states, including California, are seeing year-over-year rate hikes of more than 50%."

Old news. Numerous threads on it. My insurance doubled this year. Dropped Allstate and now with progressive for a lot more but less than Allstate which went from $1800 for 6 months to $3700 for 3 trucks. They dropped my 3 trucks on commercial policy so went to progressive with all.

Ray Charles saw this coming.

Look at every new car from the last 10 years and find one with a front bumper…you can’t. There’s a foot of expensive plastic between the front of the car and first bit of structure….for pedestrian safety. A minor “tap” which used to result in a bit of paint work now results in a $5000+ repair….then add in the cameras, lidar/Radar sensors, calibration, etc and it goes up from there.

It’s not sustainable.

Now in CA at least, traffic laws go un-enforced, and many are not insured…which causes the policies of those who are insured to pay out more often, increasing rates.

Now add in the costs incurred by theft (cats, the whole car, etc) in democrat run shitholes…

Well, it seems you've left out two other 50%+ increase states in the thread title ---- Missouri and Minnesota according to the same article.

" Insurify predicts California, Missouri, and Minnesota could see car insurance costs increase by more than 50% in 2024. Damage from severe storms and wildfires contributes to rising rates in the states."

I used the same Title as that article did...

Most of the Members here seem to be from The California/Arizona area.
Missouri and Minnesota can start their own thread if they want to !

By the end of this year / first quarter of next year… auto insurance rates will settle and everyone should be able to see what the new “base” for auto insurance is. Rates are rising due to all the things mentioned above.

Now for home insurance… that won’t settle for another year or two unfortunately.

All my CA StateFarm policies increased by 21% in 2024.
It’s starting to get out of control. Slowing moving what I can to my AZ address
Two vehicles on a State Farm policy here. Mine went up 75 bucks on this 6 months statement.
Guess I shouldn't complain compared to the hits you guys and gals are taking !

Just got my home renewal. Went up $600 bucks compared to last year.
Need to review all the details today, but when I shopped it was still cheaper to stay with who I have

The point being, if one reads beyond the California Clickbait Header, the report continues that this isn't just a California anomaly, these dramatic insurance rate increases are, or soon will be impacting everybody, everywhere.

2021 Ford F250, 2022 Audi Q5, 2018 Toyota Tacoma, Three drivers, 46/47/17, and I pay $8,200 per year. CA sucks balls.

This dosent include boat, jetski, CA home, AZ home insurance, and dont get me started on health insurance. I pay $28,600 a year for "insurance".

Thankfully the other driver was at fault. We’re at 9k so far on the estimate. And I’m getting the run around with this guys insurance.

Best thing to do is look into a higher deductible, if you’re comfortable with it.

Is there such thing as like a 5-10k deductible? Would that get people’s rates back to normal?

If you could save 1,000 for 3-6 years you’d at least “wash” your deductible.

Yep… 5k is an option with most carriers.

I switched mine from 2500 to 5k at the last renewal. And if you are one who doesn’t make small claims… you make your money back within a few years to offset the deductible in the case you ever do file a claim.

We’re seeing higher end homes, and people with the means going to 20k-50k deductibles if available.

This is on the homeowner side of things.

With the way I see people driving these days, you might as well just go without. I’m not in the mood to spend $10,000 because some non-insured idiot hit me.

I just hate my truck looking like this. The way it’s going though I’m sure their insurance will write a check for 3k. And it’ll be a fist fight to “get even”.

I’m in agreement though. If the check is 10k I might just take the cash lol.

I made a claim with Allstate at the end of May. They have called once. And still not resolved.

My Moms tailgate got stolen off her new truck. And the body shop would only quote used replacement. They said they only quote used parts on Tacomas as insurance would not pay for new. Took a month or 2 to get the check. It was $700 more for new from Toyota and they wouldn't pay it. Her first claim in 25 years with AAA.

When my Tacoma got hit, I just took it to my body shop, paid cash, sourced some used OE parts myself, and had them fix it my way, then put together a bill and sent it to both the insurance company and the lady that hit me with 15 days to pay. The insurance company cut me a check within 3 days.

I’m done arguing with insurance companies for weeks to get them to do their fucking jobs. I will handle things like this in the future, and if they don’t pay, have my atty go after them.

Gee whiz I wonder if all the "immigrants" that are driving without any insurance and the below $900 theft limits might be affecting this ? Hmmmmm 🤷‍♂️

Just got off the phone with a client. Dad was surprised that the policy went up a ton due to 24 year old daughter having 2 chargeable accidents in the last 4 months. One accident includes ongoing litigation for injuries.

High repair costs/parts and cell phones are the root of the issue.

my lexus hybrid got totalled and they gave me $32K for it on front corner collison that I luckily walked away from. The funny thing was the other driver who was at fault had state farm like me and they called me two weeks later and offered me 2K for my "injuries" if I agreed to settle up and sign off on it. I should have negotiated more and went to a few chiro appointments but I took the free money and went on my way.

Drive old junk like me and you don't need full coverage. Smog cert might be an issue in California however. I guess they got ya either way.
Well I jinxed myself this morning with this smart ass comment. We have one newer truck a 2019 Colorado. I got rear ended this morning about two hours after I posted on our way to Whitefish to spend the day mountain biking. Truck is FN destroyed, nice ambulance ride. Thankfully I was not driving the Old junk because I'm pretty sure I would still be laying in the hospital as opposed to just being sore with whiplash.

Karma got me.

Thankfully the safety standards of the new vehicle designs protected everyone including the young mother who was not paying attention and her two small children, they refused medical treatment, but her SUV looked really bad.

I'll be surprised if my truck is salvageable to industry standards. We'll see how this plays out. I'm not excited about a new truck, I liked this little Diesel powered truck.

Now we really are driving the old junk.

So an update to this lol. The guys insurance so generously offered me $2500 after my estimates are encroaching $10k.

I unfortunately don’t have the time/skills to fix the truck myself so I think doing the @lbhsbz technique is out.

Trying to avoid involving my insurance to protect our rates. I guess I can start with a nasty letter and then a lawyer follow up?

When I told the insurance company that I would not be cashing the check they were very upset.

Reporting this to your carrier will not effect the rate If you aren't at fault. Turn it in pay the collision deductible and have your company play the game and go after the other party. Once settled they should return your deductible.

Take it to a body shop, get it fixed your way, pay them out of your pocket (that's what I meant when I said I fixed it on my own) , and then write up a bill that includes every minute you spent dealing with this shitshow, every expense incurred, and send a copy to both the insurance company and the guy that hit you and the company he works for, explaining that they have XXX days to pay before your attorney sues all of them. I'm the kind of dickhead that would pay my attorney $30K to fuck everyone out of 20K...for sport.

We’re at about 6400 a year for 5 vehicles. 3 in So. Cal. and 2 in Arizona. Same coverages and limits on all but, the AZ insurance caused a drop of close to 50% on the vehicles transferred there. Add in the boat and bikes and its about $11k annually. A 50% increase would truly suck.

I'm dealing with all this right now. My Explorer got rear ended on I5. I stopped, saw the guy behind me stop. The girl third in line didnt.....

We are at about 6k in damage. The offer from insurance was $1200 for everything. My insurance is paying and I am covering my deductible. They can then fight with her insurance that is openly claiming that she had the minimum and I am not getting enough to cover repairs. At this point I just want the $1000 for the deductible. My insurance can't bump me for something not my fault.
