I would like to hear from RDP members that can add any relevant experiences about this particular powertrain and other vehicle systems of the XT5. I know there's a module available that plugs into the OBDII port which disables the AFM system. That sounds like a good idea.

One of the worst motors ever.

There's a bunch of motors then can be called "worst motor ever", but in reality most late model engines have potential for issues due to all the complexity added, to try to meet federal emissions & gas mileage specs. Keep clean oil in that 3.6, consider the OBD
plug that deactivates the DOD, (or have the PCM flashed, if that's available where you live), and, if luck is on your side, it'll last you a long time. If there's not a button for the "die at the stoplight" feature, I think they sell a little harness goodie for that online.

I have an '18 XT5 with 20k miles. Yeah, I don't drive it much. I like the fuel economy (around town 18-20mpg, highway 30-35 mpg). I wish I could shut the auto shut off, but unless your battery is new, and not running A/C, it won't auto stop, which is fine with me. Yeah, I couldn't believe there was not a shut off for the auto stop feature, but as said, they are available on the internet if needed.
What I dislike the most are the dumb paddle shifters. Why on earth are they standard equipment? I mean, it's no race car!
Other than that, it's a nice comfortable ride.

My Wife has had 2 of the older platform (SRX) with the 3.6 no issues with either, I know they don’t have all the new environmental BS, but they are quick and easy to get around in. Took it on a 3500 mile trip in September Northern California, Oregon coast, to Seattle and back to So. Cal!

I don't know about the new 3.6, but I've got the older one in my Acadia and it has been trouble free but I've been religious about oil changes and using oil with Dexous (or whatever it's called). The additive is key for timing chain life. 151k and running strong.

Wife had an Impala with a 3.6 no AFM. Changed oil every 4,000 miles and two sets of spark plugs in 260,000 miles. Sold in real cheap to a young lady going to college. Lost track, but know it made 300,000 without a problem.

dexos, and it's not an additive.

dexos1 is the GM oil spec that superseded 6094m...it's simply a high quality ILSAC GF-5 product for US market (primarily) gas engines, where many previous 5W-30 fail to meet ILSAC specs.

Dexos is apparently full syn only now as well. I’m used to requesting full syn oil changes so I always used to specify Mobil 1 to get the point across but I’ve been told now Dexos oil changes are just as good so now I just let them do that.

Someone told me it was an additive years ago and I took them for their word. At any rate the engine needs regular oil changes to live, or at least that is one component. It's one reason I wouldn't buy a 3.6 used with a lot of miles, people just don't do basic maintenance like oil changes.

My wife had the SRX and had no drive train problems at all, the rest of the car not so much.

I have the plug in module from a 2018 that disables the auto off function.
$100 if anyone wants it we sold the car last year so it’s just sitting here.

True. I recently bought a 2017 Buick 2.0 turbo with a bad engine. Direct injected engines are known for deposits on valves, but I found oil change receipts that said (customer declined recommended oil). Maybe that's why they only got 80k miles
