If there is a bedrock principle underlying the First Amendment, it is that the government may not prohibit the expression of an idea simply because society finds the idea itself offensive or disagreeable.

It is a Constitutional right. And when you stop others from exercising that right, it is YOU who is being un-American.
I absolutely and firmly believe in the 1A, but if you could show us where defacing/destroying property is part of it, that would be great.
