That is weird. I was just telling my grandson we should go there on SXS since he was a toddler last time I did it. Even told him about the goldfish. Glad to see they are still there so he didn't think I was lying.

Pretty easy ride from Yucca. Although rocky in places. From the Kingman Hualapai Mtn Park area it is a long ride. Nice, but long.

Any idea if the route over the top from the mine and down to highway 93 (dumps out 17 miles north of wikieup) is passable and how hard is it if so. The road coming out to 93 is called 129 although its a dirt road.

I just followed on earth a route that looked traveled over the mt and down to 129/93. But you never know.

Well Im in a jeep so I start in Cave Creek :).

google Borina mine. Its pretty accessible from Yucca rd which is an easy 50 mph dirt rd.

The thing I dont know is can I make it from the mine over the mountain to the 129 back to 93 north of wikieup . Earth shows dirt mt roads but I dont know the condition or if they are passable.
LOL one way to find out i guess

Might not be doable. Still snow up there right now.

Looks like a fair bit of my route is 7-8,000’. Seeing that the Wally pies :) are 8400' do you know how much snow is up there right now on non plowed roads or the forest floor. Don’t need Donner Party II.

We had a cabin in the Hualapai's for several years. I have made this trip in the Jeep a few times. I would not go after Nov 1 to about April 15th. Lots of stranded side by sides and Jeeps having to be rescued. I have not been on the trail in a couple of years, but it was pretty torn up. It is a long trip in a Jeep, leave early and let people know when to expect you. No cell service on most of the trip.

Hualapai Ranger station cam shows sunny and snow free. (As of 2 minutes ago) Last storm was 9 days ago.
Probably all gone by now. Haven't been on the one towards Wikiup, just the one passed the Mansion.. several years ago. In a CJ-7.

Man looks pretty snotty. I’ve been in that around payson and you can crab sideway in 4WD. Maybe the low desert in and out might be more conservative but we do want to loop out and run by the mansion. arg

Well that’s it kind of. up over from the Mine along a ridge line at 7500’ or so then drop back down toward the mansion to the 93. Appears you can parallel the mansion road then go back up to it. the road down to the mansion doesn’t look bad but it’s in a narrow wash bottom and that usually means obstacles.

We did this ride New Years weekend.
40 east to, I think, Alamo road(where the silver golfball looking dome is), take Alamo rd 3 or so miles and park in dirt lot across from Boriana Mine rd. Take B.M. rd and just follow it straight....respect speed limits, it is an established road and goes through some private property.
A local we chatted with said the road was fully graded all the way over the mountain.
We were first to sign in on chart(box to right of my wife)at Wabayuma trailhead summit in 2021.

the AZPT route (map ) goes that way and it’s an easy drive, not sure about right now with the weather conditions (snow) I did it last time in October 2019. There is one big ol rock you have to drive around on one if the switch backs but I made it easy in my can am max, jeep wouldn’t be a problem. We went from kingman to wickiup.

Thanks for enlightening me on the snow and muck.

I think we will stick to the desert route ( wiki to yucca rd) and hit copper world, Boriana and maybe mcCraken and save the mt route for drier times.

Best advice I should have listened to. F me, not the road to attempt in winter conditions. Those mountains are serious shit. One lane, 2,000’ drop offs, 10% grade on ice mud and snow. What a dick move to attempt.

It seemed fine leaving the mine, but then got shitty and shittier, then you are posed with the question: It’s almost dark, we are 1/2 way in, do we go back or press on into the worse part. Way more snow and ice than I expected. LOL Crabbing sideways to the edge takes your breath away.
