Has anybody here ever sand blasted their chrome rims and powder coated them black on their boat trailers? Have they held up well? Would you do it again? Thanks in advance!

By the time you pay the cost to sandblast and powder coat them its going to be the same or more than what it would cost to just get new rims. You can get black trailer rims for less than $100 each. And then sell your old rims.

Chrome sucks. Looks good now, flakes later. I'd never do that again. Get the machined finish wheels.

I've sworn off chrome on anything of mine that uses wheels.

Those are cool...I like that option! The shitty part is I had a tire start to separate at Windsor a couple of weeks ago. Thankfully, it didn't come all the way apart and do any damage to the trailer or boat. However, I had to put 7 brand new tires on these chrome rims. I know they will not be the same size as these new rims. I am being cheap at this point and I don't want to buy tires twice. I know what the right thing to do is...hahaha

Check out this website. This is part of Shadow Trailers. Trailer wheels are pretty generic in size, unless you go something custom, your tires would fit on any of these rims.

I’ve been looking at different wheels on Shadow Trailers website, if I go to a 15” instead of a 14” I will have more options and could probably get away from a C rated tire and go to a D
