Came across this looking for something else. I can't even remember what the fuck I was looking for but thought this was too good not to share.

Only info provided...

The large wheel is powered by a 360 horsepower motor. T.F. Thompson of Des Moines, Iowa, and A.W. Reed of Windsor, Ontario, designed the craft, which they hoped would reach a top speed of 300 miles-per-hour.

What you just stand at the helm and steer that beast at 300mph?? It’s like plywood with a paddle ball on its tail… weird

That thing would have so much wrap around roost going forward and down you wouldnt be able to stand on the platform, assuming it would even get to 50 mph, much less 300.

So maybe an extra sentence but a little more info.

Torpedoes must have looked different in 1940

The world was getting very mechanically smart in 1940. I’m thinking Thompson and Reed weren’t really paying attention in math class.

I’m guessing they reached 15 mph at best

Maybe Cheetah was making speedos back then?

The guys who designed this must be related to the guys posting jet boat ads on Craigslist today 🧐

Might be believable if it was a jet boat

I'm thinking that was a typo...one extra "0" in the speed number.
