San Diego Zoo. Rex the Lion. My brother runs a bronze foundry in Oakland. They cast the lion at the entrance at the San Diego Zoo.

Single point of contact to the ground supports the whole thing. Went today to check it out.

Very proud of my bro!

Is it solid? How much does it weigh?

That’s cool. Can you ask him for some pictures before it was installed? I’m curious to see what’s under/connected the supporting leg below ground…. Besides a big ass concrete footing.
… and I kind of want to see how it was cruising down the highway on a flatbed

That's massive! Cool sculpture.

We have a small place here in town. They did the western sculptures in the circles around Prescott and historic stuff around the area. There's a rodeo themed one on 89 that has a bronc and rider. Two points of contact (front hooves). The amount of work under the skin was really impressive, all stainless tubing. It's a life size deal though, nothing near as big as that.

His firm also did the bronze Bob Hope and military statues at the Midway museum, the Jackie Robinson at Dodger stadium, the dolphin fountain at Santa Barbara pier, and the horse at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

Here’s what I could find. Concrete base begins about 4 inches below the mosaic and is about 15’ x 15’ Trucked down in 2 pieces plus support steel. Shipped weight all metal 10 tons.
