I am doing for one of my motorcycles, but not any other vehicle. Why would a boat be any different?

I'd do it on a boat I was buying....that's for sure. Gotta make sure the oil has some time on it and you know roughly how long its been since an oil change. Fresh oil wont tell you much.

I would say it really depends on what type of Motors in the boat. If it's just some stock Merc I wouldn't even worry about it. If it's some high dollars and yeah I would

Has anyone ever done this with a boat? Have some friends that have done it for their trucks and was thinking about getting it done.

Yes a while ago.

They are typically a lot nastier than most autos with way more iron and insoluble and because of the many carbs still in use - high % of fuel in the oil.
I've seen great running rock solid big blocks completely plug an oil filter in 2 seasons.

I do it on diesel gensets quite often as the factory is incredibly conservative and doenst test beyond its own rated oil.
Factory calls for 150-hour oil changes, but tested ultimately has shown a sump of Mobil 1 0-w40 sump will easily last 250 hours- a safe 100 hour interval extension saves a lot of time and material over 10K hours.

In a device that runs a mobile business these expensive components proper care is critical and only a UOA can tell you where the actual the condemnation point for oil is for a given application.

Blackstone isnt the best at everything but is the only one I know of that has a database of predetermined averages your particular run gets judged against where everyone else just shows you if a particular category is out of norm or " yellow" or red.

I was going to send in the sample I collected of the factory fill of my 2017 Ford Focus ST after break-in.

Boat oil: no. As yearly average hours per year on a oil change is 8 hours.

For the small amount of money, I’d send a sample of your oil in. You do a good amount of boating each year.

Yeah, I was thinking since it's so cheap, it is kind of a no brainier.

Very few guys actually derive an ROI from oil testing, depending on what you are looking for they can start to be expensive.

that said I always like to know - it takes a mon of three to determine any kind of trend if you get a bad or high category.

For the cost of the test, you about replace the sump and filter.

You will need to send in a couple samples to gain any knowledge beyond if the engine is consuming itself, but yes it is a good service, and probably worth the money.

I send them a sample of oil from my race car about every other year.

Agreed. I have a few friends that modify their oil change intervals based on the results of testing.

I myself found that for my race car, good old Castrol GTX from Wal Mart was working just fine at my drain intervals, so I never bothered going to synthetic oil. This saves me ~$25 per oil change.

Here is one from a couple years ago, you can see the original one @ 1600 miles as well.

I bought a " under my hood " oil test kit at the havasu marine and off road show . I figured I would send in my truck oil but it sounds like unless you have a base line I'm wasting my money .

based on the hour regression it looks like a new mill thats putting out some iron and bore chrome.

Is that a 2K hour TBO mill in that?
You definately put some time on that set of wings.

I'm surprised the charts don't show a break, but one continuous line.

That’s really a bad report because I just switched aircraft and kept the same tail number.
So the older reports are a SR20 IO360. And now I’m running a SR22 IO550. So once I get a history on this one it’ll be clearer. Previous owner in Boston used Blackstone and my mechanic uses AOA now.
