It needs to be fast tracked. Too bad it's way too late to make much difference. 13 miles long by 4 miles wide.... Needs to be 200 miles long to make a dent
Sites Reservoir, Been jabbering about it for 40 years. 1.5 Million acre feet, about twice the size of Diamond Valley Lake which is 800K million acres.

I don't work in the H2O industry, so go easy on me. But I have a question. Why haven't we developed desalinization plants and installed those types of facilities along the coast? Other countries, ships and smaller personal vessels have the capability....why couldn't we do something like that here in California??

There's 21,000 operating in the world and about 200 in the US, the largest in Ca, Florida and Texas.
The largest in the US is the Claude "Bud Lewis" plant in Carlsbad Ca. @ 50 million gallons a day.
It's expensive water, the process requires a lot of electrical energy and most systems discharge the brine residue.
I'd like to see more of them and I believe as with most things, necessity will motivate improvements that will mitigate a few negatives associated with this method.

Does there become a Time when "NEED" Overrides "Expense"?

Absolutely, and it's a proven strategy that "The Powers to Be" have realized works and has become their "Go To". That sufficient permitted and/or simply induced pain, suffering and anxiety will create a motivational atmosphere of willingly vesting all control.

This thread may have tracked "Off Course" a bit, but "IF" there is a Water Shortage🤔 then I don't want to hear complaining until there is an "Elimination" Of Swimming Pools, Irrigated Golf Courses, Private homes Watering their trees and plants that 'ALL" can be considered Non Essential. Then don't even bring up the "Water" features in Vegas. There is a NEW large housing project close to Hoover Dam that I have not heard one complaint about. People took water for granted for years and wasted massive amounts of the Now Precious Resource.

The Time has come after conditioning for People to "PAY" for Everything we are going to Pay to either De-Salinate Ocean Water, or Pay to Use the Water that has been labeled in Short Supply.

STOP, funding Foreign Wars and Pay for "Everything"

There is not one day that goes by when there isn't an "AD" for "DAV" or similar charities, and it is heartbreaking to see these "Hero's" who have sacrificed a Good Normal Life, for WHAT?

Starting with the Korean War, and going forward, People became Wealthy and there are others Wounded for Life, changing every aspect of living and then there are the ones spending "Eternity" in a Cemetary, being Visited by Loved Ones on Special Occasions, "IF" even then.

There are many Foreign Countries that Owe this Country and many of its citizens a World of gratitude and Heartfelt Thanks for what our Country has done for them and this World.

Meanwhile in the hood, I'm not going to give up my full-flow showerhead, my green lawn and avocado trees, until my neighbor "Bob" gives up washing his car and his swimming pool and only allows his kids to shower three times a week --- so HA 😈

Lol, I didn't realize they named it after one of my high school teachers & city Mayor. I only knew it as the Poseidon desal plant. It pumps the fresh water out your way.

Ummm, yeah F'eh off. Not complaining about it, we have plenty of water here in Vegas. And there is no large housing project anywhere near the dam. I'll keep my pool, thank you.

I meant to say that there is a Housing Project that has been approved near Hoover Damn, and I assume that means IT WILL be constructed. Accept my Apology, as I could care Less if Vegas has enough or Any Water, I was just saying for those who complain about running out and the Need to conserve "Look Around";)
