I’m stuck at home with the wife, but my Dad is kicking around the idea of taking the kid up mountain biking on Saturday.

I haven’t been up there in 15 years.

Is it gonna be a packed shitshow all weekend?

What’s the biking program? They have ICON passes (usually they do Mammoth)…kid likes bike parks, the old man likes beginner/intermediate stuff.

You've seen this right?
No. I just got the from Dad 15 minutes ago and I know we’ve got a few here that live up that way and a few that mtn. Bike, so I figured I’d ask.

Kid is 14 and Dad is 77….if that makes any difference lol

I have friends that live in Running Springs and buy annual passes, Jr high aged kids. They seem to like it. I've never been.

Beyond that I have no input.

Isn’t this weekend they have the town garage sales? Everyone has garage sales during one of the holidays. Can’t remember if it’s Labor Day or not.

I sold my cabin a few years ago but always went up on the holidays. It’s pretty busy but manageable. Stay off the boulevard and use the side streets. If it’s the garage sale weekend you’ll battle the looky loos too.

Going to Sky Park next weekend-first trip. Staying in the MH in the campground. Taking a 4 and 7 y.o., and Mom will watch while I do the trails for a few hours, then the light trails with 7, and kid track with 4. Looks like a fun time.
Parents have a cabin in Big Bear, when we go there I like to do the Hanna Flats trail. About 8 miles, very fun. First 3 are fire road uphill to the camp ground, then 5 miles of great up/down tight single track. Starts in Fawnskin near the "Fire station".
Highly recommend this over Skyline trail.
Bear Mtn is also fun, but I dislike lifts...

Memorial Day you pick up crap from garage sales and then by Labor Day you’re hosting you’re own garage sale to get rid of the crap you picked up three months earlier.

Yes there’s a truck load of people driving around for yard sales this weekend.

As for mtn biking for the OP, I believe the ski resorts in Big Bear accept the Ikon pass for some downhill trails. But if you want less downhill and more interesting trails sky park is it. Though be aware it costs to park and costs to get in and it gets full quick. And big bear is a ways away from sky park so probably not worth the hassle of driving back and forth on a holiday weekend.

There's a car show Saturday. Probably a safer option for your Dad.

lol…77 yo Dad runs circles around me and the kid. He’s either at the gym or rides his STA bike 30 miles every morning.

His bones just don’t bend like they used to…and I’m not on the mood to deal with 2 broken people in my life right now

Hence why he might want to avoid the big jumps and ladder drops at Summit. Skyline would be perfect for him. It’s roughly 20 miles and 2K of elevation gain. It’s fun but no big moves to destroy yourself on. You’ll be worked by the end. Park at 2N10 trailhead by Bear Mountain.
