Second wave of marines have landed.

Afghan Gov is sending a delegation to Qatar to negotiate a peace deal. Looks like we are all set for the Taliban to start lobbing 155mms and 60mm mortars on the airport and shutting down the flights and retreat of us

History if you didn’t know. The British Negotiated a retreat at a Kabul by paying a ransom to do so to only be attacked on the road to Pakistan leaving the country

People have a hard time understanding that the Taliban as a whole is much more than just a couple of goat farmers. Their training camps are much more than a few ropes courses. They’ve been trained by outside forces, some are even ex pats from the likes of the revolutionary guard in Iraq. Not to mention the defectors of the ANA.
this situation will go one of two ways: 1) Ghani will resign,Taliban take governmental control, with little to not casualties and allow the US to retrograde; or 2) They will overrun Kabul using whatever means necessary, overrun the embassy, attempt to destroy the airfield, and we will have a mass casualty/mass POW type event.

Keep my rescue bro’s in your prayers for they’ll be the last ones out.

On another note, you’d think Biden would’ve learned from the great successful pullout of Iraq that he assisted with.

Sadly, these aren't the honorable type. Negotiating will probably still lead to casualties. I hope and pray for the good men and women there, both soldier and embassy staff. This is not good at all.

CIA backed Milita the KDP marched to a town from Khost to rescue the town and promptly surrendered to the Taliban. This was a group the cia had trained and equipped with the best of the best.

Why would they let us leave so easy. They have all the reason to shell the airport and shut down ops so we can retreat via the road to jbad and get fucked with the whole way

This is all the fault of the Pakistan isi.

On a side not the Taliban captured the former Soviet era president 7 years after the soviets left. He was holed up in a UN building in Kabul. They tortured him then kill him. Then dragged his body and his brother behind a Toyota through the streets. Then hung their bodies over the presidential palace. That was 1996. They were a new and inexperienced group. We have given them 20 years of fighting the best COIN army the world has ever seen. This is gonna bite the world in the ass down the road hard.

They’ve been known to negotiate ceasefires/peace deals in the past. If they’re looking to be recognized on the world stage then they’ll do what it takes to show their strength. This being the show of mercy. It’s a long shot, but the chances aren’t zero.

They’d have a better chance doing a shorter drive back up to Bagram. JBad has always been a hot bed. It’s also still too small of a FOB to have more than 3x 130’s. We had to do max efforts in/out due to the length. Forget about getting a 17 in there. However, they did make some bomb ass bread just off the flight line.

Bagram is tali country now.

Pretty much all you got left is Kabul, parts of the road to jbad to Pakistan and khost. Even Mazār-i-Sharīf fell this morning.

I would not want to be in a war room planning a wheeled exit to Pakistan battle plan today

True, but a more defendable location. Let’s hope our brass has a halfway decent contingency plan at this point.

wtf are we looking at here? Is that US equipment?
My understanding is yes we have left them a great starter kit to kill our kids in the next go around including amraps, humvees, and drones. Absolute negligence by the leadership leaving equipment behind destroy it at a minimum. Or better bring it home I will take it

Having been a part of a few deployments during a time when we were making huge progress in both Iraq and Afghanistan this really pisses me off, not like I need anything new to get angry about.
I'm not a history major or expert but it's very easy to see why we are still in Europe and Asia 76 years after WW2 ended. It has nothing to do with nation rebuilding or peace. It has everything to do with having a presence in a region so they never happens again.
We had long term plans for bases in the middle east and because we went to quickly into "hearts and minds" we lost it all.
We had most of them more afraid of us than the other guy but they also knew we would take better care of them in the long run.
General Mattis, love him or hate him for whatever you choose, was correct in all of his war/combat philosophies.

In hindsight Bush should have got us out of there in 2002 once Bin Laden escaped to Pakistan. We stayed to keep the Taliban out, and now we’re handing it back over to them just to let Al Queda retool.

Fast Forward 19 years and we now have a President who is asleep at the wheel. Elections have Consequences! Expect War on Terror, Part II before Obiden runs for re-election in 3 years! Hopefully the bloodshed is light unlike Saigon 🩸 This would not have happened under 45’s watch!!

My personal view is that we needed to get out of there long ago. Nation building is not our job.

Im pretty certain no matter who pulled the troops out this would have happened. Any President that didn’t want this to happen would have to leave US troops in there indefinitely. No good options.

As soon as troops were gone, this was inevitable.

You get the non military types out first, so we and our allies aren't scrambling to do it now in dire circumstances.
You schedule the withdrawal during the spring/winter when the passes are closed and many of the Taliban are back in Pakistan banging their child wives.
The original schedule was extended by Jao Bi Den.
You need a president who is America First, one who turned Suleimani into bird food, instead we have chocolate chocolate chip with a side of drool.
Remember Jao Bi Den authorized millions to teach Afghans about gay rights, I guess Hunter gets that money now.
We spent 20 years and trillions for the ANA to fold and run like BobbyV from Regor.

Saturday Recap: It's Sunday morning there now.

-Early morning Sat (local time) the Taliban were attacking targets around Maidan Shahr, 9 miles southwest from Kabul. They used 122mm howitzers, of which they have dozens. 48 hours ago, they were 20 km away on the SE side of Kabul in Logar province.

-For the past 2 weeks, the highways into Kabul have been packed with refugees, the camps inside the city already filling up. 11 days ago, the Afghan Defense Minister's house(6 blocks away from the US Embassy) was targeted in a complex attack involving a car bomb and a small squad of fighters. Kabul has had it's share of attacks. For over 24 hours, The Taliban have had an artillery equipped force on 2 southern flanks within a 15 MIN drive of Kabul City. They have an established presence inside the city with SVIED capability. They could attack at any time if they choose to.

-After the fall of Jalalabad to the east, and Mazar e Shariff to the north, all roads out of Kabul are now cut off. The power was cut during the night.

-Bagram (40 miles to the north of Kabul, and the only potential alternate airfield) had conflicting reports of who owned it.

-The 2 remaining warlords allied with the current gov (Dostum and Noor) fled to Uzbekistan.

-Germany, Canada, UK, Turkey and Norway all sent troops of various numbers to evacuate their embassies.

-President Ghani has not officially said anything about resigning, despite the rumors to the contrary. It is believed he was flown to the US Embassy last night.

-B52s have done a few sorties, multiple tankers have been tracked as well. AC-130 was overhead during the night.
