I've noticed the crazy amount of sheer on some of the new construction around LHC right now. Cost must be ridiculous when you consider the current price per sheet.

I over bought in Oct and was tired of moving 10 sheets out of my way. HD refunded me approx. $20 something per sheet, it was almost $40 a sheet on the rack last weekend.

2 years ago I redid the deck on a 5x8 trailer with treated lumber. $100 and I thought it was expensive. I just budgeted a 5x7 trailer with treated lumber, $250. Yikes!

Don't worry. Biden said last night he wants to fight inflation by lowering prices. And America made products by Americans for Americans. 🇺🇸 👍🏻 💸 💰 🤑
Don't hold your breath waiting for this to happen.

I was just looking at the decking on my flat deck trailer and thought, Jeezus that's my trailer, I have to re-deck that thing. After seeing this it looks just fine now.

Some one is building next to a friend of mine and I noticed the HUGE amount of tie-downs all over the place. I never saw that in the 70's when I was framing for my Dad.

I wish I would have bought stock in Simpson 20yrs ago!! They have the construction industry by the balls! I'm pretty sure the owner of Simpson has some sort of ties to who ever is in charge of code requirements!! And are making a killing off of construction hardware.

I actually know a guy that tried to get into the building hardware manufacturing a few years ago. And all his products "failed" even though he was above the specs on simpson shit on pretty much every product. If Simpson product had a 1500lb vertical lift, his had 2000lb for the same product. And it was "failed" by the feds that approve that stuff. It definitely makes me wonder who is who and why there are no other real options in building hardware besides Simpson!!

Yep, May of last year it was at $1,780, by Aug/Sept it was down to $456 and now back up to $1,405. It's crazy and were about to do a 900sqft addition. 😲

I remember the first hold down I ever saw on a site, everyone laughed about them.
We did a 12 x 20 foot add on recently, there was 12. Structural observer asked why we put so many in. Because you put them on the plan fer fucks sake!

I had Structural observation yesterday and was asking why He put 9 bars in the footing when the other Engineer for another section of wall put 4.

As far as Simpson hardware. I bought 5 pallets or so Yeats ago when Lowes put it on clearance to switch to carrying USP. 90% off. Now those column caps are $95 each. Paid like 6$. Down to just a few left along with a few boxes of hangers.

A buddy who works for a oil company in SoCal heard gas will be going up 30 cents tonight. Not sure how they gauge those numbers though.
Good weather and beach surcharge? 😝

What did you pay for the 2x4's? My lanai is suppose to get final inspection today. I just put in an order from HD to build a laundry room and bathroom in the lanai. Also going to drywall the side of the park model that is in the lanai. 2x4's were $7.75, Drywall was $12.98.

Tip. I ordered everything I need online. Lumber, doors, drywall etc... All delivered (threshold) for $120. To me it is worth it. They run around the store and gather all of the supplies. Load it. Bring to my place and load it into the lanai. Could of had it delivered today, but I said Monday as I won't be here much over the next few days.

If you have seen the quality of wood nowadays you’d rethink that online purchaseZ. We had to go through quite a bit to find straight 2x4’s..

Shit didn't think of that. These are for walls, so hopefully they will be straight enough.

I lanai is a essentially a screen room. However, they have plastic windows. Kind of a heavy clear vinyl. These are attached to a park model (mobile home). We had a new park model ordered last April. We got to move into the park model in mid Feb. They just cleared inspection on the Lanai yesterday.

Now you are suppose to use the lanai just for a screen room. Most modify them to make the park model bigger. Monday A/C and heat will be installed in the lanai. I have a volleyball tournament on Tuesday, so I will start construction on Wednesday. I am removing the doors, windows and siding from the park model. Drywalling the side and encasing the doors to have a more open feel. Then I am going to put a laundry room and a bath room in the lanai. Then flooring and furniture.

I tried to hire this out, but could only get 1 to bid it. Was stupid expensive and could not do it until June. We leave in May and I wat this done before we leave. Should take 2 weeks.

Here is the outside of the Lanai/park model.

Here is the inside of Lanai now.

Here is a little drawing I did for my wife to show her my idea.
