Bassett Headers Question

So I have some Jet boat headers they are in excellent shape no rust or anything. I guess they were re chromed a few years back and when I ran them on my new build the heat is making the chrome flake off. What would be the best way of getting the chrome off. Sand Blasters give me different stories. Anyone in the area of Orange County know of any chrome shops?

Take them to Embee.

Have them stripped and ceramic coated. If you want to get fancy have the inside done with copper.
Of course they could redo the chome too.

They said since they are flaking they would need them stripped.
I think I found a place called Linco in Anaheim to do them just now.

Linco is your best bet. I've used them a few times. They've got dip tanks that are REALLY hard to find anywhere in CA nowadays. I don't trust their polishing skills but good at stripping.

Yeah, either way they'll have to be stripped.
There are a ton of places that can do it in OC. Embee has probably the best coatings around.

I have not had good luck with rechroming headers... I know the plater that does all the chrome work for Bassett, I gave him some old headers to re-do and they came out like shit because it's impossible to get in the corners around the collector and between the tubes to polish them before chrome.

Get them coated at Embee.

I'd run like hell from Embee. Have used them for years, but last batch there was a new guy behind the counter and between him and whoever coated my parts, fubarred my stuff pretty bad. Shit happens, but when the manager refuses to call you back to resolve the problem, it kinda sucks.

I will take them over to Speedway polished and Coating for Ceramic coating soon as they get stripped. Will keep you guys updated

I ran my water injected headers "dry" like an idiot one day for about 15 minutes.
That little oversight blued the shit of them real quick!!

I found these guys and got a dull metallic chrome kind of coating. (don't remember the name of it)

They do have a little rust in the deep crevasses, where the pipes twist around each other.
But they were done back in like 2006, so I imagine everything has only gotten better with the whole coating experience since then.
Overall i'm pleased with my headers.

Meh.

Pretty sure the CP would be faster with the exact same power. I have no way to verify that though. So who knows. *shrug*
18 CP will be quickest. 19 Daytona will be the fastest on the top end once it has a chance to pack air in the tunnels. Or so I’ve read. :cool:

I have heard nothing but good stuff about Youngguns also.

Are you idling excessive? Bassett says to blurp the throttle if you do as there is zero water in the exhaust below 1800 rpm. If you don’t then will start to run hot and getting above 1800 will get some water in them to cool them back down
