$20,000 for 162 miles, is that good??

Two broken steering boxes and we walk, blown motor in one pre runner, blown steering rack and blown CV in another pre runner, total of over 6 hours waiting at the borders, tough race for a lot of folks, but it was still all good.

Spent a week with a Baja virgin though...an engineer for Stewart-Haas, and she had had her eyes wide open in amazement for a week!!!

Anyone else go???

I used to go down there back in the early 70's for the races. El Rosiaro (sp?) sure was a big party back then.

Wouldn't an engineer for Stewart Haas be in Miami right now?

I pitted with pork pits at rm100 and rm590. Your story sounds perfectly normal for Baja:). Our trip was fairly uneventful. Border sucked ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First DNF in this truck in 8 years!!! We just ran out of steering boxes!!! We could wash the truck, and run again!!! (with a new steering box!!).

Anyone want to buy $2500 bucks worth of fuel????

And about 20 piece of shit BFG's that get stuck on asphalt??

Cool race, DTMF/RC bombings in last 6 months down there, not so much. Will enjoy watching races north of the border, thanks.

Has to be one of the most money sucking types of racing there is, makes asphalt racing pale in comparison parts destruction wise.

I ran a 2/1600 car for 10 years.. I think I won a total of $1200 .Contingency stuff helped, but not much. Off Road Racing is definitely not done for the money. But it sure was a hell of a lot of fun :D

The time involved and the financial drain got to be too much about 10 years ago. The wife thought food was more important than the car :blah::grumble:

??? Really, I would have to disagree. F1 would be the most expensive. Not even in the same league.

Most expensive per mile raced? I would say top fuel drags. Stupid money to go a 1/4 mile.

Off road racing is pocket change to the above mentioned forms of racing.

What a great weekend at the 1k.. Just walked in the door, runnin on about 10 hours sleep since 04:00 Wed. We did the timing and scoring. saw a lot of attrition down there. there was a Razor number 1802 the guy was driving with hand paddles and almost finished! It really was an awesome weekend.

Factor in Semi trucks with mobile machine shops, helicopters, chase trucks, chase crews.

I saw the story on the 1802. I thought wtf until I heard he was a para-palegic. His story was that he saw dust to glory and decided that he could do the 1000 in a Razor. They held the finsih line open for him from what I read, he finished this morning about 5 hours late!:thumbsup

I can't imagine doing the 1000 anyway, let alone in a Razor!

He was 75 miles out from the finish when we had to shut down timing and scoring at 21:18. Woulda loved to wait but numbers had to be crunched.

Yeah, I just read that he didn't make it in time, but really doesn't matter, it's pretty inspirational and all.

And his radio was out, they were communicating via cell phone text messages. Being a sxs guy myself Im always rooting for them and being the low guy on the totem pole I always get shit about sxs's and have to take it..LOL.

Cool story no doubt.

And I would agree that off road racing is a small fraction of an F1 effort. I would bet that a full season of Score racing might compare with one F1 Race.

What a jackwagon. You know if one of those guys would've hit him, there would be hell to pay!

By the way Faceaz, just won my desert race today with the stabilizer installed, 100 miler. The damper made a huge difference, fatigue way down. I finished 1st in class by age (40+), first in class (novice all ages), probably about 20th overall out of 85 or so. Not bad for an old guy, but I won't be able to walk straight til the next race in a few weeks now.:thumbsup

One of my clients co-drives for Joe Bacal's Lexus LX in Stock Full.
Looks like they won their class for the second straight year :thumbsup

Of course, not many teams race in this class, only two this year, the other team DNF'd.

Bacal's got a good story, though.
He's a cancer survivor and races to increase cancer awareness :thumbsup

The number of entries does not diminish the victory, finishing the 1000 has its own bragging rights, but winning puts you in a class of your own!!

The SxS guy could have burned his ride to the ground, and I guarantee that there would have been 50 teams there to rebuild it so this guy would finish, at our pit meeting we instructed everyone to look for this guy, and if he needed ANYTHING we would help. This stuff never gets the publicity it should.
