I just came back from grinding the rear suspension out of a 1970 Ford 1 ton truck. My Dad's trailer (GMC truck box, ironically) has a broken leaf spring (top spring) and takes these old Ford units.

There's nothing like grinding the hell out of almost 40 year old rusty steel while the yard dog rams his nose into the side of your gut and sniffs to get an idea how tasty you would be. That is a sturdy animal. To make matters worse, it's almost 100 of your degrees here today.

.... this is how you get a set of truck springs for $15.

I spent many days as a kid in the junkyard, it's not much better knee deep mud @ 35 degrees either.

Did you call JBB he could have brought the FIRE WRENCH, it's my most favoritest junkyard tool!!

I actually use to like roaming around junkyards.....back a few years ago you used to be able to wander around and run up on a classic or two....or scrounge thru trunks...:p

If they would have let me bring in my gas axe, it could have been off in a couple of minutes.

Yeah, all these "auto recyclers", "metal recovery" firms, "pic a part" are just JUNK yards. Some of my fondest memories are from walking through the old yards and finding gems. Buying Ford 3 speeds for $15.00, fancy steering wheels for $3.00, hotsy totsy 4 BARRELS for $10.00, (AFBs long before Holley got into the performance end).....Old 47, 48 Ford coupes and sedans, 40 Chevys, coupes and "business coupes" with the long trunks and slide out drawers....Merc flatheads, with more power than the Fords and "back draft" carbs.......Man, the treasures we found in those days. Later it was Ford 9 inch pumpkins, with 4.10 posi gear ratios out of 6 cylinder station wagons, and v8s with sticks. I think the Bakersfield area going rate was $35-50 per pumpkin, back in the early 60s. How about a yellow painted "352 Police Intercepter" FE engine, what a screamer that one was with a stick behind it in a 58 2 dr sedan..........With "dump" tubes of course. (Only the really rich guys had headers).......Yeah, a good old fashioned junk yard is a true treasure chest, and this last trip through Idaho, Oregon, and Washington reveled that a few still exist in the back road cities. I know of one I'm going back to. Saw a few old 40s era Chevys, and a couple of interesting 2 door Cads and Olds coupes, late 40s............OK enough of memory lane for now........Ray

There is some great junkyards just outside of Enesnada, classics stacked to the moon. I heard it is impossible to get the cars back across the border. :(

Tom the poor dog probably just had enflamed and overfilled anal sacs and heard you had experience in this area, hoping you'd help him out.

I'm confused. I was under the impression that Mr. Brown takes his "gas axe" everywhere. Is it not a built in unit?
