Been with Mercury (AIS) for some 25 years with no accidents, 2014 F150 (7k miles year) & 2018 Chevy Volt (12k miles year) 100K/300K policy $500 deductible and it cost me $1,200 every 6 months.
Is this high or am I just living in the new world.

zip code and annual mileage is a biggie.

Mercury is still very competitive everything being equal.

Review the annual mileage and if it's high call in with your current odometer.

Mercury recently added some new group discounts so if you are a member of AAA,costco, sams you can save right tat 7%.

The state and zip is major consideration. As is credit history, type of vehicle, etc., on and on. I've said this before on here, everyone should shop for insurance every couple three years just to see how the market is in your area. If certain companies get pounded on claims IN YOUR AREA in a short period IT COULD affect your premiums. Everyone on here should at least know what CLUE stands for in insurance. NO INSURANCE COMPANY WILL BE "LOYAL" TO ANY CUSTOMER IF YOUR PROFILE CHANGES. My years in mortgage and real estate have taught me lessons. I can't tell you how many clients have told me "MY INSURANCE COMPANY IS GREAT. THEY LOVE ME TOO. MY ASS!!! Let one little slip and fall, fender bender, traffic ticket pop up and YOU ARE ON THE SHIT LIST. LITERALLY!!! I had a Realtor I worked with in San Diego for years. Rental properies, vacation homes, cars, etc. $2500 water damage claim in a rental, ZERO DOLLAR water damage claim on a busted water heater (no damage but the water heater BUT SHE CALLED THE CLAIMS LINE), and a slip and slide from a neighbor kid at her pool. ALLSTATE, WHOM SHE LOVED FOR 20+ YEARS, CANCELLED ALL HER SHIT LIKE A STAMP. SHE LITERALLY ALMOST GOT DIVORCED OVER IT. Called me several times crying that her husband was freaking. I had to help her get new shitty insurance on all her shit. Insurance is a necessary evil. Sorry to the insurance peeps on here and no disrespect intended to the agents, but it is what it is.

Well I went and got quotes from two other major players and they came within a few $$ of my current premiums so looks like I'm staying with Mercury.
Going to look at any discounts as I have AAA, Costco, Etc. May help if I bundle my home owners as we recently moved.

I’m with mercury as well and just received my renewals. Up 13% from last year. No accidents/claims. 2009 Silverado 2500hd diesel (5k miles) and 2003 Sentra (5k miles) . I’m 250k/500k policy $500 deductible but liability only on Sentra and I’m at $1527.

Homeowners through mercury went up 16%. I understand the market has been crazy for houses but my agent said it also has to do with wildfire claims in California. I live in a non WUI ( Wildland urban interface) so I subsidize the people who do and get there homes burned down.

Where should I look to run comparable stores see if I’m high or not?

I would check Geico. I had Mercury for over 20 years with my home owners combined. There rates climbed every year. Never a claim. I switched about 4-5 years ago to Geico, they have been great. I have 3 vehicles on the policy right now (home owners thru Oregon mutual)
All 3 vehicles are 2017's Tahoe , Raptor, Ram 1500 (soon to be sold) $1328 for 6 months 100/300 with a 250 ded. Once the ram is sold, should go down to less than $900.
My homeowners was about $1400 per year with mercury, found Oregon mutual thru a broker and it went down to $900 a year for better coverage last year. Just got the renewel and it went up to $1150 for this year.

I had Nationwide, 2 houses and 5 cars for over 25 years. I got a non-renewal because I have a shake roof, which I've had for 25 years.......Heavy shake, fire-treated and in excellent shape. Needless to say, Nationwide left and my agent got the boot due to them being unable/unwilling to find me a decent policy. Moved all to State Farm for same/better coverage and no cost difference.

I don't disagree with the general premise that insurance companies will cancel your shit as soon as you become uninsurable, but I would respectfully challenge the example you gave. Your friend unfortunately received bad advice from her agent or didn't call her agent prior to filing those claims. Assuming she had a $1k deductible on the rental property, so she walked away with a $1500 check for the trouble of having a water claim on her history (some companies apply that claim surcharge not only to the specific rental property, but all properties that someone owns) and then opened up a second water claim without payout. Underwriters from most reputable insurance companies will look at that and say "this person has issues with water at their property" and either surcharge the hell out of their policies, or cancel altogether. Throw a liability claim in there for good measure (slip and slide) and then you do become uninsurable.

Not saying that is a good or a bad thing, but it doesn't take a big leap for that to make sense from the perspective of the insurance company.

Raise your deductible. I'm with Mercury through my neighbor who is a broker. My limits are 250,000/500,000. There's absolutely no way I'm filing a $600.00 claim. I have mine at $2000, with Comp at $500. I have Full coverage on a 2004 Jeep Wrangler, a 2017 Jaguar, a Dodge Ram 2500 and liability on a 2000 Saturn Wagon. All with another approved driver. My total annual premium is $2,400.

AAA is the way to go if you have a great driving record. I’ve had a few others and AAA smoked them especially with a bundled policy.

Similar coverage and miles driven. Geico has been the cheapest for us (10 years now) although, I shop it every year. 4 cars (3 and a truck) with 3 drivers. $2950 for 6 months.

I used Wawanesa when we lived in CA. They were pretty reasonable, but picky on who they will insure. If your record is bad then look elsewhere.

Time to shop myself....fucking pain in the ass. Who's the ones to avoid? Not trying to cheap out on a carrier....just don't want one that will bitch out when it comes to a claim. Never really had any claims to begin with.

I do annually. 3 of the 4 vehicles are BMWs which l‘m sure has an impact. Also, the fairly young driver on our policy doesn’t help either..

^^^ This
Everytime time I'm at AAA they go for the sales pitch, then give up when I tell them I have Wawanesa.

Wawanesa was the cheapest with young drivers. Their prices have come up considerably over the last 5 years.
