Anyone use American family insurance through Costco ?

AAA has gone bonkers ! My policy for me and my wife is now $3,350.00 We have clean records with no current claims. 2019 Tesla Model 3 and a 2010 F-150 4x4

A like quote from Coscto was $1,952.00 and Progressive was $1,632.00.

Any insurance broker inmates ?

I have insurance through them. They haven’t raised the rate in a year. I haven’t filed a claim or anything like that. I was going to call soon to see if they provide SXS insurance. Sorry I can’t provide much more help then that.

triple a is a 12 month policy so make sure you are comparing apples to apples. Also make sure you look at all coverages , deductibles and annual mileage. Most carriers are being very particular with annual mileage and sales reps tend to lowball mileage and that could blow up on you in underwriting.

Teslas are bad to insure. very pricey compared to normal cars.

Yes I'm getting it all set up apples to apples.

The Coscto quote is $976 for 6 months.

I know Teslas are not cheap to insure. That is why I snooped into the Costco insurance, I have a friend who has two Teslas and moved there for that reason. Just looking for some more real world advice

seems really really cheap....

With that said the AAA seems pricey especially if you have the home there.

If it's legit I would have no issue switching just make sure everything is the same and the mileage is accurate.

Yes

My buddy that uses them has a Model S and a Model Y that should be WAY more than my model 3 and F150 and he is at $1962 per year.

I guess i'm moving on from AAA

We’ve had Ameriprise {now CONNECT ~American Family} for at least 13 years.

If I’m not mistaken they’re a subsidiary of IDS {Investors Diversified Services} which I know has been around forever since my dad worked there forever.

As stated they have barely raised rates. $800/year for my Vette & the Excursion. Granted both are old now but rate has been the same ~ even went down as they’ve aged. Full coverage on both.

Got mine thru our Ameriprise financial planner at the time not Costco. Had a great rate on our homeowner’s policy as well.

Only downside is they won’t write Larry’s commercial policy for his work trucks. ☹️

S and Y insure like exotics....maybe they haven't figured out the Tesla math yet...lol

No way in the world can you stay in business with those rates. Tesla tried (I think they re launched) to insure there cars and went belly up quick due to cost on parts and labor.

I forget who costco uses now i think it used to be Ameriprise but they stopped working together a while back.

We have had Connect(was Ameriprise) through Costco for several years. We’ve had several claims and everything went very smoothly. My next door neighbor was my insurance guy( has his own brokerage)for years and told me he couldn’t touch the rate, for same coverage.

Gezz 3400 do you have a dui
I don't

Clean record for both of us.

It's all the Tesla It is like $2400 and the F-150 is $940

The AAA agent even told me that most Tesla owners are leaving AAA and getting policies elswhere including Tesla Insurance.

All good I will changing tomorrow

Safeco $3600
Geiko $3400
AAA $3300
Costco $1990 Would have been $1650 if I could bundle but they would not write a policy for my house
Progressive $1690

We have Connect and formerly Ameriprise for 10+ years for home and auto in both CA and AZ. Have made a couple claims over the years with both auto and home and were happy with the process. Rates went up a bit after claims but they were still low compared to others. They do not do boats or sxs so we have Geico for those.

I have had USAA for at least 10 years. Policy renewed last month and I am set up on auto pay and didn't realize it jumped up $300 every 6 months from $1600 last term to $1900 now. We have two BMW's and an F-150 and have never filed a claim with USAA and both have clear driving records

I hadn't shopped around in well over 5 years and decided to today and it was a real eye opener! Here is the run down.

Policy is $250k/$500k since we have an umbrella policy as well. $1000 deductible and 6 month terms in WI. These policies were the same coverage limits, etc.

USAA-$1900
AAA-$1011
Geico-$972
Liberty Mutual-$887
Connect (Costco)-$801
Progressive-$552

Needless to say, I will make a habit of shopping around at least once yearly from here on out and honestly feel like a dumbass for not doing it for so long! I'm going to switch to Flo at Progressive tomorrow and will re-visit in 6 months.

All of the quotes look pretty cheap for the coverages you have listed if all the coverages are equal and the mileage per car is accurate/same. (granted i'm not familiar with WI)

I can almost guarantee something is off with the Progressive. That's an average of $184 a car every 6 months. I had a client call in last week because progressive game him a crazy good rate. I told him it's wrong lets take a look at it and when he pulled it up they had left comprehensive and collision off a couple of the cars.

Just make sure all is the same and nothing is "missing"

The AAA rate seems pretty dang good compared to there rates in CA. Costco and Geico could be accurate imho.

I insured my boats with Progressive for a few years....until I read the fine print. It said they were authorized to utilize used parts if it was deemed necessary to cut down on costs. I quickly switched back to AAA.

I think what everyone has to take into account in CA is mileage, most of these companies are baiting you in with super low mileage to offset rate on their initial quotes but once the renewals hit and actual mileage is calculated, rates go through the roof. On top of that I have a list of least 20 companies that have HUGE rate increases in the pipe waiting on the DOI to approve. Lastly, not all contracts are written the same, most times you get what you pay for.;)

Some of what you all pay a year is what I have to pay in a month.
Have 3 auto's (soon to be 4) with two 17yo our policy is close to $10K a year.
Only blemish is wife had accident 3yrs ago this month.
I think my Geico quote was $12-14K, cant exactly remember.
I am with Progressive now--had Ameriprise years ago. Never had a claim with them and rates for us were the cheapest at the time (no kids driving)

89002
100/300K $500 ded.

kids are terrible.... I'm guessing they have niceish cars?

I don't think i have a single client with 2+ kids that has gotten through 3 years without at least 1 kid having a decent accident unfortunately. The cell phone is the game changer for kids they can't leave it alone.

We kept our cars older on purpose thinking it would help keep rates lower when time came to insure the twins. Well thats not the case. I pay just as much on a 13yo truck as I would have on a 3yo truck. I had the insurance company price it out and difference was negligible.

Shop it...seems a little weird. 13 y/o similar trucks should be less. Not a huge amount but couple hundred each.

Just a minor collision in a Tesla is a total loss. You eat the premiums.

Just did an online quote and they were almost 2K more a year vs. AAA. I do have a 16 year old driver but they were not even close.

Escalade was $118 less every 6 months when compared to Yukon Denali
Just shopped all this in Nov when policy renewed.
I truly believe there is no difference in premium on an older vs newer while we have the kids on the policy.
Once the girl is off to college and boy departs to Navy, I can exclude them from them from our cars and rates will drop considerably. They will only be rated on their car vs all of them. When they come home--I can just add them back to the policy. Agent said I can add and remove them countless times during the policy period.
Until then--I just have to bend over a take it I guess. .

I had the same thing with progresive. They show you a small down payment then a monthly payment. Then you see really fine print that says 6 months. I shopped everyone and Costco connect was the best I just wish they would insure my home, they said it was too expensive to insure ??

I don't understand we are not in a fire or flood area it is worth $1.9 ish which sadly seems pretty ordinary in OC

FYI (In California) progressive was just approved for a 18% rate increase. Mercury a 6.9%. I know everyone hates paying for insurance… but expect rates in CA to go up a solid 25-30% over the next year.

Just trying to do my PSA to prep everyone. EVERYTHING has gone up a crazy amount in the last 2 years, except for auto insurance (in CA no carriers had any rate increases approved since Covid). So just brace yourselves…. This will set a new baseline for the “new normal”

Every carrier in CA has rate increases filed with the department of insurance. Even carriers getting them approved, have 1-2 more increases ready to file after the next.
