Awesome write up Dave! Manufacturers need to find ways to bring boats back to an affordable level! I read an article in the lounge "who is under 30 on the forums," interesting read! It should have stated who can go into a dealer and "order a new boat under 30?" I know many can and I know many that can't! I'd love to walk into a dealer and order a new boat with my color choices and some substantial power but the prices are staggering! For instance, Hallett 210 with a 350 mag on their website they list it at 62K MSRP. I'd love to build and order one but I can buy a lot of used boat for that! Not bashing a boat brand at all on this, just a manufacturer I picked off of the top of my head! That same Hallett 12 years ago was half the price all most. I know its all manufacturing costs and lets face it the entire boat is pretty much a petroleum based product so when oil sky rocketed so did the boats!
I am seeing a come back on the 210 models (I presume these are the old 210 skiers from all the big builders?) Great boat for day boating! I'd like to see manufacturers bring on some killer 23 ft models back! Caliber 2300 Silencer, Howard 220 offshore, Eliminator 236, (Schiada needs to sell their 24 mold to a builder that can build me one for under 100K! ) I see myself and many others looking for this size range in todays market!
Keep up the great work Ultra and I look forward to seeing you succeed!
I was heading down London Bridge Rd on 3/11/14 to the City Operations Facility to see a friend of mine and I saw the Ultra sign. I was wondering what was going on there. Thanks for the info....
Refreshing review Dave. We all remember when the 21' open bow was the bread and butter of the industry and it would be nice to see things go in that direction once again, if nothing else, for getting new buyers back in to the boating world.
Everyone loves big, fast boats but the reality is, the average family out there can't justify plunking down 80,000 to 100,000 dollars just to get their feet wet, in the current economy. People are looking at getting more bang for the buck. Ultra may be on to something here. I'd love to see them and many others, succeed.
