My wife, son and I did one of our favorite hikes yesterday in Palm Desert. It begins off Monterey Drive (Hwy 74), south of Hwy 111 at the base of the mountain where the road heads up to the high desert and runs all the way to I215 in Menifee.
The turnaround spot is a group of Palm Tree groves, or oasis. Just under 4 miles up to get to them.
Here is a view of the Coachella Valley, about 2 miles up. Looking north east.
This is looking back East to Hwy 74 starting up the mountain.
This is looking down to oasis #1.
This is the final oasis where we worked our way up to the entry.
We spotted a horney toad on the trail. Little bugger has terrific camo.
This was the real treat. Bighorn Ram on lookout. We see them every once and awhile, but never this close.
