Got it.

There is an administrative appeal process for both vehicles and aircraft as we have appealed several aircraft values. The form is on-line.

They use the MSRP no matter what discount you received so if you have the original MSRP from the motorhome with the VIN on it they will change it to that number and then do the number of years discount to arrive at taxable value.

But if you got a big discount off of MSRP, they don't care. The statute says "MSRP".

It is in front of an ALJ. You don't need a lawyer. https://www.azdot.gov/docs/default-source/executive-hearing-office/hearing-request-form.pdf?sfvrsn=2

My experience is that when you send this in, they call you and try to work something out if you have some objective data because otherwise they have to send someone from the AG's office to represent DMV in front of the ALJ. Otherwise, they just let you get crushed by the ALJ and the AG's office. :)
Thanks I am going to send the form in. It just seems crazy you get charged on a number that means nothing.

Nice side step to my question.

I like your answer though...

Its ok if I do it, cause other kids do it.

Lame.

How about you answer the Real question and explain your behavior?

Explain how you justify expecting some people to pay more in taxes, while you sit there and cheat on yours?

The class is waiting...

I pay. Again, your selective righteousness is telling.

It's just how the statute was written in order to use a consistent easily determined number and minimize the gamesmanship. Otherwise they would be inundated with administrative hearings like happens for property taxes in Arizona.

In some cases it is a benefit, such as a car that has a ton of options as you are just charged on the base MSRP. But if you get a deal way below base MSRP, it becomes a disadvantage.

They will just use the base MSRP. If they made a mistake relative to that number, they will be fairly flexible and adjust it with your documentation. If you just got a good deal below base MSRP on the sticker, well the statute is the statute.

There has been a lot of threads in here on how people use Montana Corporations to get around both sales and value taxes on automobiles and on motor homes.

Couple examples.

That easy anymore. CA is on to it and prosecuting from I have been told by a Cali owner of a high end RV

Same with Arizona. They have a special tax force in effect right now including the Department of Revenue and state law enforcement. Airplanes, motorhomes, fancy cars are all subject.

It's a felony including back taxes, fines and a little time in the pokey.

If you know who they are, you see them at Cars and Coffee every month subtly taking pictures of Montana plates and VIN's.

They even work Scottsdale airpark checking out hangars, N numbers and state of registration.

Sales tax on a 15 - 20 million dollar mid-size plane is a major felony.

Base MSRP.
Frankly, it is the only standardized valuation that is unbias for them to use, otherwise everyone cheats and lies about it.

When I registered the Peterbilt for the first time, back in '99, the MVD gal called Texas Peterbilt HQ, to get the msrp. Previous Ca. registration was over $1100. Az tags were about $250. Yes, it has gone up since then. The truck is a '59. Has a bit more weight fees than a 1 ton.

In MT if your exotic or motor home has a base mark over 300k or so they added a new fee last year of $800. Good until the vehicle is 10 years old, but still no sales tax.

If you do the Montana thing correctly it’s registered to your corporation or your LLC not to a private individuals name and the registration is to a Montana address. I have one car I’ve never had a problem of course I have a legitimate LLC with taxes filed, insurance in lax name, etc., not a shell.

No. You don't. And you're admitted in writing on here. I'm not the one trying to be righteous. I'm no fucking saint for sure.

But I'm not running around trying to change the tax laws, trying to get people to pay more in taxes, while cheating on mine.

You have made your position crystal clear to everyone on this board.

Peace out.

Yep way money hungry the DMV IS. And now add the $32 fee to all vehicles. WA state did the same thing and the people revolted and got it put back to $30 tabs but that too has been creeping up. Plus now dealers have to send your stuff off to Phoenix. They can walk it through the local DMV like before.

I can imagine what at MSRP of $410K and you get it for $250K. I pulled some data together on our RV and the average advertised price is 32% off MSRP across the country.

How does Nevada handle RV and Car fees?
