Assuming it went Matson or Pasha...they usually go roll on roll off, unless it was tied into a container or open rack. If it was any island but Oahu that may have been the case.

Not sure exactly... arranged by new buyer out there. Broker said he thought it went on trailer into a container. I know it got there aok cause he sent some videos.

Here in Florida there is all sorts of stuff floating in the ocean. Cargo Containers, Refrigerators, boats full of immigrants, and other stuff.

I must admit...... everytime I leave the Inlet, I have my eye open for “Square Grouper” and “Brick Fish”! Those are 2 terms I learned when I moved to South Florida. You would be surprised how many square grouper and brick fish are found up and down the Florida coast.

I will let you guys figure out what those 2 terms really mean....... lol

Even us who fish the eastern pacific know what those are and we also know, there might be aircraft keeping an eye in the sky on them --- so best to put them on ignore or you might get some unexpected and unwelcome company 🥵

I'm just curious how containers float, it's not like they're water proof or perhaps filled with foam cushions.

Correct me if I'm wrong, from what I've heard these big shipping containers are never "tied down" and losing a few in storms is pretty common. Maybe someone that works the docks can confirm or deny?

I'd like to see the video footage of that thing in the storm. You know someones got video of those containers going overboard!

They are lashed down. And lock together with locking cones. But when a ship rolls almost completely on its side like this one did those bars ain’t holding shit.

I fell sorry for the companies that lost their freight, NOT the rip off mainly Chinese shipping firms. In March we were paying $2,250 for a 40' container from Indonesia, now $,5,500!! It is rigged.

That ship is easy to spot from the 110. It looks like it getting loaded back up now just drove by.

Is there a ship with a crane that can fish the containers out once they go overboard?

Different ship. The one you’re seeing is a different one that’s at YTI terminal. The ship with the missing cans is in Long Beach at ITS.

In San Diego the Jean anne travels to and from Hawaii it’s an equipment, car, moving cargo ship every 2 weeks it’s back to San Diego.

they just ship wrecked cars and stuff and machinery, the have huge forklifts that load and unload the ship. I have a buddy that does some maintenance on it while it’s in port

Always freaked me out running to Catalina and scared of hitting one of those right below the surface. Very unlikely but always in my mind!

So the containers would float? I guess it depends on what was inside of them if they were buoyant or not.

They float for a little bit. They eventually will fill with water and sink

How do they unload a fubared one like that Tom?
Possibly a floating crane barge on the opposite side for those containers?

That is an interesting ship and amazing how much fits in it. Hard to get the proper perspective in that picture, but this cut-away X-ray view explains a lot.

And to figure some of our biggest trains only carry 350-400 containers, those are the three mile trains. And they lost 1800 containers, sounds like someone is getting fired.

Maybe it did. Someone sent me the pictures the other day and said it was at ITS. I don’t know. I haven’t worked at that place in over 15 years.

My mistake. Texted my buddy and he misunderstood. It was supposedly headed to ITS. I’ve been steady at the same terminal for over 2 years so I’m out of the loop on most things going on around the harbor.

It seems easy enough to track via real time sat pics. If they are still at surface.

They know where they went off and wind and current modeling is pretty spot on these days.

How come boats sink, but all steel non-watertight containers float ??

They float for a little bit. But will eventually sink. Those are gone for good most likely.
