Looking at a possible move there. Ravalli County specifically. Heading up there in October for a visit and some looking around.

Dont know anyone in the Bitterroot valley. How ever i worked in Wisdom, Mt. My first summer fighting wildfires. Which is in the the big hole valley (just south and east of the bitteroot valley) Both places are amazing!

It was a culture shock for me i grew up in Phoenix and had been to some small towns as kid growing up. When i got to wisdom the town population was 87. I met everyone in the first three days. Haha

My wife asks about going and id really like to take her and the kids.

I know a guy in Wisdom. He’s been there a long time and moved from N Cal.
He loves it, I don’t know the elevation off hand but it’s much colder than Sandpoint ID from what I see.

We are just North in the Mission Valley at the south end of Flathead Lake. We've spent many years exploring and researching the whole state. Angie can chime in as well. What do you want to know? We really looked hard at the Bitterroot Valley, but ultimately ended up here.

Edit: Bring a jacket, the weather is already turning. I heard the high elevation in the Bitterroot got a dusting of snow this week.

26 frost free days a year on the average!

That can also be interpreted as 26 days of war with billions of mosquitoes! Haha they laugh at 100% deet.

My wife's sister and hubby moved there a few years ago when Mom gifted them her long time home. She's become a high ranking member of the local quilting guild, and he's been busy turning bedrooms into closets to hold the vast warehouse of clothes they require. Apparently layering helps, I think I counted 8 layers in last year's Christmas Card pic, and that's with them all standing in the kitchen. 🤣

Can you recommend which month has those 26 days you mentioned ??

We pretty much have our plan set. I was just looking for any inmates that may be in the general area.

I've been going to the Bitterroot Valley for over twenty five years. My business partner has 8 acres with a great house on the Bitterroot river just past Lolo.

I love it there - the winter is mild but big snow easily accessible 30-45 min away in winter over the pass to Idaho. River front for fishing and scenery the rest of the year.

Are you inheriting the property? If not, youre going to shit your pants at the cost of property up there. May be no factor if you're bringing all your money with you, but no way i would buy there as a working stiff. I was there in late ‘21 and blown away at the prices and what you got for the money…..

Even at a 50% discount, i wouldnt have been interested in a single property on the market that I saw in October ‘21.

It's chilly this morning in the Mission Valley. My standard response on Weather is that "It's Pleasent" Yesterday was perhaps one of the last hot days (Hot is mid 80s), we will see this season. My Dad just left after visiting for a week to head back to Texas, he is pushing 80 and after a week here said if he was younger he would be moving here.

Sure Southern California has great weather, but there is something about the lifestyle here that makes the weather less important, Ii is not for everyone but we like it. We worked for 15 years to get here. Our funny response to people is that while we are not from here we got here as fast as we could.

I don't idle well, I'm not the kind of person who can just sit and visit, or quietly take in a view. This place is teaching me the value of quiet reflection and being present in the moment. Maybe age is contributing.

My advice for anyone looking at relocating is to spend as much time as possible in various stages of the season. Summer is not what anyone from the southwest will recognize, but it is kind of nice not to be sweating your ass off while trying to sleep, or having to hide inside with AC all day. Hell, we don't even have AC in our home and so far don't miss it.

The biggest thing is accepting you moved and not comparing things that you moved from. Accept that things are slower and less convenient. Accept that you have fewer choices, accept that you can't get a haircut by appointment. We have one Barber in our town, and he is open 4 days a week. It is never less than an hour's wait, and he doesn't take appointments or keep a list. You gotta do it his way or not get a haircut.

I absolutely love seeing teenagers and young adults wearing their jeans properly, being respectful, riding in the back of pick-ups, and openly drinking at the rodeo. I love that men hold doors for ladies, give up their seats, and say yes mam and sir to each other. For me the weather changes are nice, but it took some time to get used to and I still head south to LHC for winter, mostly because I am not yet ready to let go of my roots in Offroad and the lifestyle, weather, and connection to the southwest. I'm guessing Angie would be happy never leaving this place.

It is expensive to buy property, but everything else seems less expensive. The Bitterroot Valley is damn nice, make sure you stop by Total Outfitters for fishing guide service, the guy that owns it with his wife has great stories and is a history teacher at the local High School.

Probably no rainbow flags either.

I know I didn't see any on my trip through Idaho this year. 👍🏼👍🏼

We have plenty of them around. More than you might think, yet we seem to all get along just fine.

Good friend of mine is gay. But I'll tell you this...

He Hates that shit as much as I do. Advertising what you do in your bedroom just makes no sense to me.

Or him.

I also have a very close friend who introduced us to Montana about twenty years ago. She is like an older sister to me. She gets really fired up about the self-promotion stuff as well. She and her partner live way back in the woods off the grid because they have found it all to be nonsense. Note I used her preferred pronoun. She is more of a man than many men I have met. The only gal I ever met who was tougher was my aunt Barbara who raised my brother and I; also gay, but sadly with my Aunt she lived her whole life trying to meet the expectations of the culture she lived in. The pendulum does not need to swing so far, but somehow it is in our nature to do so.

Rain and cool in the Mission Valley this morning, fall is definitely in the air. I think it's a safe bet to predict we stay below 80 from here on out. We anticipate highs in the upper-mid 70s later this week. Lows are going to start creeping down steadily from here on out. I'm gonna have to mow the field one last time, sitting on the porch enjoying the rain and pondering when I might mow while watching the neighbor mow in the rain. Gotta time it right so I only mow one more time before these snowbirds fly south to LHC for winter. The grape Tomato plant is 8 feet tall in the greenhouse and the rest of the garden is exploding, I think the vegetables know they need to dump one last harvest as well.

It's oddly quiet this morning, I guess this concludes the vacation season. Tourists must have all headed home.
