Tesla does something similar. They have their own insurance. They do monitor your driving habits. I have no idea how much it is but fuck that. I have a car that will do a hundred in just a few seconds. I’m gonna enjoy it. 😁

Looks like they are reporting your driving habits to your insurance company.

I have onstar in my 2016 Yukon. It’s the first car I’ve had that could have it. My 2002 Escalade and 2009 Yukon no longer supported it so I didn’t pay for it.

I like the fact that I can remote start the vehicle from anywhere, and it gives me a monthly maintenance report, but other than that I never push the button and ask them anything. Honestly I just forget I have it.

I doubt they can pass my driving information to my insurance. How would they know what insurance I have?

I have internet service disabled in our vehicles, but I see this becoming more wide spread as new vehicles are offering desirable subscription based options that will require internet service. That sucks.

VIN # lookup ? I know Carfax knows when I take my cars in for service at any dealership, and I've found even a few local shops have reported it that I wasn't previously aware of.

Insurance companies provide the VIN # and they respond with the info. Just like Jiffy Oil Change Shops and others for mileage verifications

It sounds like all your data, in detail, goes to LexisNexis to be purchased by any company that wants to pay for it. You have a right to view it yourself, erase it, dispute it or even block it if your in California. https://consumer.risk.lexisnexis.com/request

The irony of having to send them your Social Security number to keep them from sharing your personal information…

I quit OnStar when I flipped my truck and lost the shark fin antenna and it rendered OnStar useless. When I complained to OnStar they said they’d give me 6 months free on the truck I just totaled.
F OnStar!

Driving older, less complicated vehicles seems like a better and better choice every day.

Fuck all this shit!

It's like the multi-function tailgate........ If I wanted something that can take a load in the rear 9 different ways, i'd call your mom!

Exactly, I don't need any vehicle to "correct" my steering and when did putting a key in the ignition become a hassle and had to be changed to a push button? I added a remote start/alarm to my 03 F250 that's all the automation I need.

I hate it when I loan people my vehicle and they drive it like they stole it. All I know is that I NEVER drive it over the speed limit……. :looking:

Peak truck performance was when you just turned a knob that said "AC/HEAT" to turn on the fucking AC and HEAT....
Talk about one-touch access.....didn't get any faster or instant!

This is officially turning into an old man "back in tthe good old days" conversation, and I'm fine with it lol

My charger has it (2022). I went on Allstate’s websites, and logged into my account. It's all there. Every trip, top speed, shows where I stop for gas if you look close enough. Looking forward to the days we can interface that data with actual video, from the billions of cameras around the world.

If you take your crap to glamis, and trash it, they know. 😖

I wonder how this is going to work out for the guy being monitored in a court room?

People look at me weird when I say I drive a window crank Ram. They don’t know what that means.

If my insurance company had data of my driving, I'd be an ex-customer. I was on the Sam Rayburn Tollway a few days ago, looked down and I was going 98 MPH. I usually don't drive quite that fast.

I have it in my Tahoe and have internet disabled, but I have still gotten service reminder emails and emails from the dealer asking about the CEL when it's popped on... I think the vehicle still talks to GM or the dealer even though we have it disabled, kinda like internet at a hotel if you don't pay for it - it's still there, but you just can't access it... Not 100% on this, but I did find it strange when I started getting specific messages about my vehicle from the dealer...

That's spooky, certainly contrary to what's published regarding Onstar, but I'd be rather insistent about finding out from the service writer or manager, HOW they know this with an expired subscription.

Best friend bought the last year Suburban with a big block, loaded to the hilt, asked him when I rode in it did you get free Onstar?
He replied that shit is disconnected, he was dating a smoking hot absolute chick from hell, he couldn't quit her.

His reply was there will come a day when my first smashes into her mouth and I don't want them to be able to disable or locate my truck. o_O

For the record he never touched her.

Try driving a new totally baby sat big truck.
Besides the obvious dash cam with in cab capabilities they will yell at you if you follow too close. They’ll yell if you try to change lanes if they think a vehicle adjacent to you. They’ll yell if you get too far out of the lane. Some will even tell you to slow down, you’re going too fast.
Oh, and some are governed at 64. 😳

When I read this yesterday, I instantly thought of all the folks here complaining about their insurance rising or being dropped "for no reason."

Yeah I have to admit, I’m at 80-90 in the metroplex.

The problem is, everyone driving slower than me is a moron, and anyone driving faster than me is a manic 🤣
