Just got of the phone with sis. We are very close and can discuss politics dispassionately, like adults. She is a liberal and was bemoaning some supposed Trump executive orders that would impact her family. Specifically, an order reversing a Biden order regarding the $2,000 Medicare annual cap on prescription drugs. I did a little research and in fact that notion was false, the Trump order had no impact to that rule. I think that made her feel better, so mission accomplished.

But . . . Next it was the rich don't pay enough. I said sis, the top 1% already pay over 40% of all federal income taxes. The top tax rate for a CA resident is over 50% federal and state combined, isn't that enough? Crickets.

It's like geez, just chill out. The pendulum swings both ways. Maybe just turn the TV off for a while.

The ones worth talking to have seen the light. The remaining ones can’t be deprogrammed and just need to be pushed off ASAP to save us from the drama lama. 😁

Its interesting...I'm not sure a better word for it. My old man has been a Democrat voter for a long time....Voted for Biden, Newsom, Gascon, etc....

He lives in the bubble that is Manhattan Beach.

He hears my stories (I'm in Long Beach) of my truck getting stolen, my tailgate off my truck getting stolen, the cats getting stolen off my truck (twice)...tweekers trying to walk into my house at 6:30 in the morning, etc.....and he just shakes his head and says "where are the cops? Call the cops!" Well Dad, they don't do shit....if they show up within 12 hours.....more often than not, dispatch directs me to go online and file a report. "That's bullshit!" he exclaims. Yeah...we're in agreement there. I show him a video (one of many like this) of a couple of natives terrorizing the local ROSS and walking out with a bunch of merchandise....and he says "Shoot 'em!". I showed him that video of the natives on stolen dirt bikes taking over that intersection in San Pedro the other day and he's in disbelief, to the point where he couldn't watch more than about 30 seconds of it....and said "run 'em over!". Well dad, the problem is that if a civilian steps in, that civilian will get caught....cuz there's only one of 'em, and spend the rest of their life in prison....Dad said "what the fuck do we pay taxes for?!!!". He's coming around....slowly. Too little to late though.

Liberal people ditch me and my wife, we don’t have any issues with anyone or their thought process. I truly think liberals lack the ability to debate and have no ability to stand behind their party’s stances on topics. It’s reminiscent of catching your child doing something wrong. They know they are wrong, but they are embarrassed and stutter.

Rather than having her turn off the TV, have her watch NEWSMAX, if she can't get that at least Fox.

I read where the transgender suicide hotline spiked 366% as of noon yesterday. Seriously
Honestly, it's kind of sad. The left has preached for years that the right will round up everyone, and put them away. Kind of ironic, considering these are the people that called for jailing those that didn't take a shot. Unfortunately, some of these people really believe that roundups of "undesirables" will start under Trump.

My boss is conservative as it gets yet his wife is a lib. One of the “we have to leave the country because trump is putting us all in jail” types. I just don’t know how he does it.

Thankful for my wife for sure. Couldn’t imagine being in a divided relationship.

I try my hardest to find common ground with my liberal friends. But they won't have any of it. It's unfortunate, they are suppose to be into compassion and understanding. Most of them are spiteful, angry people that want to take their frustrations out on me because of my personal beliefs.

Not uncommon for them. They’re mostly miserable people without any real grounding. Their God is victim hood.

I hoisted the flag at 1st light on Monday . . . . first one on our street to do so.
Came back out a bit later and saw some of the neighbors did the same . . . those who didn't I suspected wouldn't . . . I don't talk to them anyways.
I have zero liberal friends or family, and I have no problem chatting with liberals, . . . right up until they say something stupid . . . which usually seems to take less than a minute without fail.
Then i'm done . . . . buh-bye

My circle is small. I keep it that way on purpose. I don't care about your political view. If you bring it into our relationship we might rethink our circle.

LOL what’s the point? If they haven’t switched sides after the last administration you’re better off reasoning with an insect.

With the utmost respect, and no insults implied, is your sister one of the group of women that had you convinced a while back that Trump would lose based on the SC abolishment of Roe v Wade, and the subsequent loss of the female single issue voter?
Honest question.

I raised mine on inauguration day , now back to half mast till the end of the month for Carters death. ALL Flags should be half mast for 30 days.

Per federal law, all government buildings, public schools, offices and military bases must lower their flags to half-staff for 30 days when a U.S. president or former president dies. The sitting president is also expected to issue an official announcement of the death, as well as authorize the closure of federal buildings, agencies and departments to observe a national day of mourning. For example, following the death of Jimmy Carter on Dec. 29, 2024, President Joe Biden ordered flags lowered to half-staff for the next 30 days—including on Inauguration Day on Jan. 20.

I have great respect for the flag and how it's displayed. But I've been very clear when joe dies I will not show him any of the respect being a president affords.

He has spent 50 years being a con artist and leach on the system.

Just my .02

My 83 year old father who's not in great health sent the attached picture to my very liberal sister the day after Trump won, no comment - just the photo.
IMG_20250121_233557.jpg

She lost her mind and called him a Putin loving ass hole who's brain is numb from watching Fox news. Then she basically said I'll never talk to you again.
I personally never watch the news and I really dont follow any politics. I just live my life and have fun.
I don't understand how someone can choose to never speak to their parent ever again just because of political differences.

No I have a very strict do not talk politics. If they are on the ledge they know not to say anything to me. A few years ago I did have one try to start saying something about Biden. I turned a walked away. They asked why and I said you know my stance on politics and you tried to talked to me about something political. They have never tried again. That is how I deal with liberals. I just refuse to listen to their bullshit.

Honest question.
ALL of the women I know, including friends, are still incensed about that SC decision. To answer your question, yes, that had an influence on my belief that the issue would tip the scales for Harris, especially with suburban females. And don’t forget the shellacking the Republicans took in the 2022 midterms, especially among many Trump loved candidates, when that SC decision was more recent. That fact influenced my concern also.

Turns out the abortion issue faded a bit with the electorate after an avalanche of gaffes, missteps and just plain boneheaded policies by a clearly impaired Biden. The far left hijacked the Dem party and they paid the price for it. As you know, the pendulum swings both ways and make no mistake, the vast majority of this country’s voters are moderates, whether slightly left or right of center, and they clearly rejected that sharp left turn during the Biden term. Good riddance.
