Anyone else been looking at the Samsung 82" QLED TV?

I've wanted one of these for months and still do. The good news is the price has come down likely because Samsung's new models will be coming out so they're wanting to eliminate the inventory ("wipe out" per RD). While the new ones could be a bit better they'll certainly be a lot more costly - this TV has been around $3250 or more this past year.

I'm not sure I'm gonna buy but at these prices it's tempting.

I definitely am....I have a “regular” LED 75”. I was waiting to hold out til they hit around $1600 or so. Also, don’t know if true, guy said at Best Buy they can only go as high a 8k because the human eye can’t see anymore defininition....maybe someone here know more about that.

Depends on the size, which is directly related to viewing distance.
On a 200 inch screen, you’ll see the difference.

I’m also on a 75” LED.

QLED technology is still LED.

OLED is better tech, and prices are dropping...that’s what I’ll be going to next.

Good to see that I am not the only cheap sucker out there. LOL. I have a friend renovating a new house to him. In total there will be 13 TVs in the house. 4 55” in the great room, 82” in the living room and 2 55” in the bathroom!!! LOL.

I remember buying our 1st projection TV years ago and it would not die so I could buy the first flat screen LCD. I tend to max out at about $1500.

Yeah I was drooling over the OLED’s when I was TV shopping last month. Just couldn’t wrap my head around the prices. The OLED’s are approx 4-5 Times the price of a 4K TV. Ended up finding a bargain 65” Samsung 4K for $499.

Rule of thumb is your viewing distance should be atleast three times the diagonal measurement from the screen. Much closer and you’ll be chasing the screen with your eyes when watching anything.

A bit more money but the Q8 series is full array LED, Q6 and Q7 are edge lit.
Installed a few lately, looked really nice. Should be around $3600
The LG 77 OLED is Still better but around $6k
If your just looking for big LG has an 86 ips at $2500

My friend has a Plex server - he's been getting DVDs from Netflix for years - ripping and returning them. He's now in Florida and we have access to his thousands of movies here in PHX area (unfortunately we can bear to watch most of them)

That’s a great price. I paid a lot more than that for my 75” Q8 last summer.

The difference between the QLED and the OLED is that the OLED uses individual pixels whereas the QLED is still a backlit panel. OLED can provide true black unlike the QLED but the individual pixels can burn out and create dead zones on your TV, the OLED is also prone to getting picture burn in.

Despite OLED having a slightly better picture I felt that the drawbacks outweighed the picture quality and opted for a QLED.

If it weren’t for the fact that I’ve already got newer 65” and 75” TV’s I would jump on this deal in a heartbeat.

I would not buy any TV without high dynamic range and would prefer HDR over 4K given the choice.

This piece of test gear sells for 15K and has become the industry standard signal analysis tool.
Here it is being used live in the nanosys booth at CES.

It looks at the source image as a stream or file, and analyzes its properties in real time and gives the user a host of useful information.

They are using it to send the identical picture to multiple outputs - in this case, 2-4K TV's (it can send 2-4K images or 8- HD images)

This way you get the exact same image on each set- and know exactly what you are sending - this lets you gauge each type of displays response to said image or sequence of them.
