Airlines here in Canada are offering some pretty attractive deals to Maui and Oahu now, also it's cold as balls here!! Cant seem to find much info on whats open and whats closed in Hawaii right now. I can sit on a beach for a couple hours but need an activity or 2 thrown in every day or so. Restaurants? Bars? Anyone got the straight goods?

Don't have a lot of detail but my daughter has been grinding me to go to HI for Christmas - I have been leaning towards snow.

She says you need a clear covid test a day or two before you go or you have to quarantine when you get there. Her friends are there now and they say they are drinking in bars and sent a picture last night of sitting on a patio in waikiki having drinks along the beach someplace.

My daughter just confirmed an ABNB from Jan 4 - Feb 11, she plans on working remote from there for January.

In the quick look around that I did at hotels - they seem to be running at reduced capacity.

If you like going to East Berlin then go to Hawaii. I would avoid it.

Sir Bob is spot on from what I was told this week.... I've got friends living in Maui and the latest is you get a covid test 72 hours prior to flight and when you land they check your results at de boarding and there's no quarantine. As far as the restaurants they're pretty much doing the 25-50% occupancy... the typical tourist activities aren't fully returned just yet but check cause he said he's seeing increasing boat activities on water everyday. His family of 8 are arriving today from mainland and he's rented them a fishing boat outing for a day so thats up n running.

Never been to East Berlin! I've been to Maui many times, probably the biggest reason I like it, is that you are not there!

Flying my son home tomorrow from UofH.

He flys back Jan 9 - biggest issue is getting tested within 72 hours of departure by a Hawaii approved lab with results back prior to flight departure!

Went to Ohau just after Thanksgiving for a week to help a sick relative. Flew Hawaiian airlines and the plane was half empty and no one sitting next to you. I think that just changed on the 15th though.

You need your Covid test no more than 72 hours prior to the flight to Hawaii and MUST have the results in hand before departing. If connecting from other cities the test can be 72 hours prior to the last leg of the flight. Hawaiian airlines partnered with a lab near LAX just for its travelers. It was $90 and results guaranteed in 36 hours and you had to make an appt. They had a lab near SFO and Vegas as well.

At the airport you get your temp checked and show test results so you’d better hope you don’t come down with a fever on the plane lol. Had to show test results at the rental car place and at the hotel so that can be a bit annoying. Saw restaurants had patio dining otherwise it was takeout. The vibe was fine at the grocery store/restaurants/businesses. Didn’t do any touristy stuff as it was all work unfortunately.

Went to Oahu in October right after they opened up. Had a blast it wasn’t crowded at all and all the beaches were so nice. As far as restaurants and bars being open, most were with a limit of 5 people to a table. Had to wear a mask until you were seated. Same as any where else. Last I heard Airbnb and VRBO wasn’t allowed. We actually found a Vrbo where we said we were staying with friends so it worked out for us. Make sure you have your test results back befor landing No results = can’t do shit. Can’t even rent a car. Ask me how I know. Luckily my results came in the first night. Feel free to msg me if you want any more info.

As was said, previously you could go fly over and if your test results weren’t ready...you just had to quarantine until they came in. That changed a couple weeks ago and they must in hand and uploaded and acknowledged by the Hawaii website before you step foot on their land.

There was also thermal imaging cameras (manned by a military guard) right at the exit of the jetway, so they aren’t messing around.

Yea, friends of ours have properties on Kauai and haven't been able to go all year. Since it's a small island they literally check up on you for a 14 day quarantine they require, which is the only island requiring that. Sounds like they are very strict on enforcing the covid restriction laws. No thanks.

Oh yea, some friends went a few weeks ago & said it was like a military zone entering with the National Guard (probably what someone meant by East Berlin reference) checking you out as you enter. Then all the restrictions afterwards. They still enjoyed themselves though due to less crowds.

This - plus your test has be executed by an approved lab - state of Hawaii lists the approved labs on their website

Locals really need our support fellas.... the smaller boutique islands really rely on tourist $

They've been in an unsustainable situation since March. In Maui's case with only 300 hospital beds and 180K full time residents it was a serious shut down. Good to see restaurants open again.
