I live in Las Vegas and I need a motor on the cheap. I'm thinking about a Mercury 357 Alpha 4v. Pro Boats ad says $7149 and shipping to Vegas is about $150. This way I do not pay CA sales tax nor do I pay NV sales tax. I only have to find a marine service center that will install it for me, after Labor Day.

I have never heard anything bad about them that I can remember anyways. I have heard the name a bunch though. Not much help I know.

When I lived in Glendora, I went into his shop one time. Kind of old school, nice enough guy. Seems like quite a bit of money for a rebuilt, but maybe the accessories all come with?

He worked on one of my boats, he's very thorough, but he's not cheap, in fact, he's at the higher end of reasonable. He does water test the boats at Puddingstone, but must be terrible at docking because my boat always came back with scuffs and gray paint on the rub strip (the same color as the docks at Puddingstone). I now go to Brian at B&D Marine.

He did some service on my old boat. Great mechanic, clean shop and honest. I would buy anything he sells with confidence. I agree, he is on the high end of cost.

Hes a weird dude....Insisted on water testing a brand new outboard in order to submit warranty papers to mercury...
I called a few other Mercury dealers and they said no water test is needed to activate warranty...
Turns out he brought his kid to the water test so they can go for a boat ride...If I was not there Im sure he would of brought a tube or skiis as well...

Good, knowledgeable owner, but as others have said, his prices are pretty exorbitant.

Price seems high for a 350, I would venture to say a new long block would be less. At least that's what the mechanics in our yard told me a couple months ago when they were working on one of our owners boats. I was giving them shit because they winterized his boat and had an internal water leak after de-winterizing. They said the owner bought a brand new Mercruiser 5.7 long block for 5200.00 local.

FYI
I have a pre vortex 5.7 motor that I do not want to fix anymore. I thought about a long block but since it is a pre vortex and I would have to move all the other old stuff from the bad motor to the new, I changed my mind.

The Mercury 357 4v Alpha is a Mercury re-manufactured block and heads with everything else new. It is a complete plug and play motor. Shipping is pretty cheap and the install labor should be pretty cheap.

I would have obnoxious001(Barry) rebuild it .
