Looking at the new Chevy Colorado trucks specifically with the little duramax. 7,700 towing for a mid-size seems pretty damn good. My 2006 3500 Duramax van is only rated at 6k. The ZR2 option of the colorado only gets a 5k rating, which could be suspension or possible transmission cooling issues because of the off-road bumper. Any of you RDP Peeps using these trucks? Feedback appreciated.

I have 18’ ZR2 with the 2.8. Truck has been great great no issues (28,000 miles). Lower payload is the softer suspension, upside is the softer suspension gives you a more comfortable ride. The 2.8 is very uneventful to drive and was bit disappointing at first, my daily driver was a Tuned Porsche Macan Turbo.
The Macan just sits now been to the gas station twice with it in a year.

The Goodyear Duratracs get loud as they wear replaced them at 27,500 only for the road noise. I average 22/23 mpg. I also Bought 3 of the 2.8 vans for the service guys and haven’t had an issue they average 18/19 we are getting 12 with the 4.8.

In before the towing police get here.

Brace yourself for-

“No way can this truck tow 7700 lbs”

“Tow ratings are lies.”

And my favorite-

“My 40 year old truck will out tow that brand new truck”

I have an 2018 GMC Canyon All Terrain Duramax. I towed my 29' Mod V back from Moabi in the spring with no problems. Boat with 90 gals. of fuel weighs at least 6500lbs.
My son took my 06 2500 HD duramax off my hands when I bought the Canyon. I Love the way this little truck drives.

Tell me more about this truck?
Real world fuel economy?
Pro's?
Con's?
Issues?
Recalls?

My buddy has one and has not had one issue. I believe his is a 2018 and I could have swore he told me it was rated to tow 8500lbs. At any rate, he tows a 22 foot ocean boat that is heavy as shit and tall! It looks funnt and scary, but it tows it like a champ. I would buy one, but the wifey said one truck is enough.

The trucks run great and will tow your boat with no problem . There not fast but the torque is solid . We’ve had no problems with either truck. My boat is a tank and it pulls it right up Chiriaco Summit . You can tell the trucks not 2500 or 3500 if you have a lot of tongue weight on them, they don’t squat down but bounce a little more .

I’m 99% positive it’s due to the spool-valve Multimatic shocks [emoji106]

Real Life MPG... Since new, over it's life, nearly 30k miles, avg 24.1.

Best MPG over 450 miles, 27.6

About 16 MPG towing

Avg MPH 30.4 over the life of the truck, a true mix of city and highway (all reported by the DIC)

Tows fine, (approx 5k) definitely don't handle like a FS truck but nothing negative, works for me...

Dual purpose, it's also my toad

Eibach springs and shocks, tow mirrors, Air Lift, cooper at3, 32"s, Grid Wheels

I tuned it when it was new, significant power increase. But back to stock for now cause of a recall reprogramed the ecm

A couple of sensors (emissions) went tits up early on, no issues since

I've heard about some catastrophic failures (Coloradofans.com) but seems to be limited to the frigid climates....

Love this truck, hope it lasts as it will probably be my last....

My son tows a Malibu 23 lsv with his and it is amazing how good of job it does. Power, suspension and brakes are spot on. Would highly recommend this truck. It gets fantastic mileage. I am a 3/4 ton guy but this may be one of the better overall packages ever made.

It is weird. I just cannot wrap my head around new vehicle pricing. Trucks especially because I use them. I tend to buy hold and try and get the most out of them. Not going to lie it is nice to get into a new GMC loaded DMAX or pick your preferred brand - they are all nice. I think I am going to have to buy used trucks because I tow, take them into the desert shooting, back them down to the lake at body beach, load metal and pallets into the bed, car trailers etc, etc. Not as bad as daily work duty but it would not stay bro / sho truck :D.

My Brother was looking at them. A 1500 is a lot cheaper. My loaded 1500 was 8k less than my buddies and he gets employee pricing. Not sure if he has towed his 26' Lavey with it yet.

no question the Colorado is a great truck, but I know that diesel in the F 150, same as my Range Rover with a larger turbo and Fords 10 speed. Great mileage and huge power. My choice would be to drive that F 150 diesel, and with Platinum trim, WOW.

Might be a little different now.. for 2020 you can get the F150 Diesel in an XLT. It was only Platinum before I think. The F150 is still gonna be a little more but not $10K more.

Correct. Base XLT supercrew with the 3.0 Diesel is $46.665 MSRP.

The diesel forces a couple more options.

Well for what its worth my RRS towed a car hauler, total weight about 4,700 up Cajon Summit at 65 MPH, maybe 1/2 throttle and the RRS only has an 8 speed trans. Towing MPG was 21/22!

Ordered a 2016 GMC All-terrain right when they came out. Currently have 45k trouble free miles, gets real world 24mpg combined for me but I have a heavy foot, 3” lift and 32’s. My only complaint is turbo lag, but it can be tuned out by Duramax Tuner if so desired. I haven’t done so. I personally wouldn’t tow 7700 lbs with it, but our 22’ boat and trailer weigh approximately 4500 lbs and it’s THE perfect marriage and nicest towing combo I’ve ever experienced.

I ran that tune for a while, although it didn't totally eliminate the lag the power increase was very impressive... got cold feet and went back to stock due to still under warranty and a GM recall for a ECM reprogram...

I did add a pedal commander which eliminated a lot of the lag but not completely.

It changes something in the way the pedal signal controls the throttle.....Multiple settings, mild to very peppy.....

Makes the pedal very sensitive which gives you kind of a false sense of more power

I’ve thought about tuning it, but for the same warranty issues never did. The off the line, dead pedal turbo lag is awful but I’ve learned to live with it. Might upsize to the new 3.0 straight six half ton D-max, it has killer reviews so far.

Do it.
It’s essentially the truck Toyota guys have been jerking off over/wanting for years.

I really enjoyed running most of old
Government road (at speed,w/leather,XM bumpin, etc) then dunking a 23’ Commander I/O full of fuel same day at Needles.

if you need to tow 10k+ you know where my Dodge keys are.... have at it.

The Tacoma outsells the Colorado/Canyon twins 2-1.
