We’ve done a couple of ocean cruises and looking for a unique holiday for this fall or next spring. American Cruise Lines caught my attention with a few of their Ms river cruises. Tons of history, ships are almost new, food looks great. Anyone with experience?

I have never heard of this? Are they the old riverboat style with the casinos etc?

Couple old stern wheelers, but built in the last 5 years and a few modern looking ships as well. Passenger capacity is less than 200 on all of them.

It would be kinda fun. I've been there in the middle of the summer and the humidity is unbearable. I don't know how they do it.

Not yet but are getting close to booking one.
I believe they are era themed cruises with would be kind-a cool mostly for the kids.
Like maybe taking the MOHO to Memphis Tn. and leaving it in a KOA then taking to cruise down to Norlans for a few days then flying back to Memphis or ?

If you're doing this, spend a day in St Louis, two absolutely must experiences: The Gateway Arch, and a place a few blocks away called "City Museum"

Oh and Pappy's Smoke House for some BBQ

We've been kicking the idea around too.
The Mississippi wasn't fully navigable a few years ago is what held us back.

If you like Civil War Sites it can be even better.
The Vicksburg Victory is where Gen Grant pretty much changed the war in the Unions favor.
Great battle field and town tours. It was brutal for both sides.

Memphis and Graceland.
Thei'rs a store front food joint that hasn't changed the cooking oil since 1921, Sun Records and a few other historical spot if that interests you.

Friends reported lots of Blue Hairs, cornball entertainment on the Queen of the Mississippi, good food and they'd do it again.

There is one that includes tickets to the Kentucky Derby, it's on the list.

We’ve heavily considered it as well. I even had the videos shipped to me. Looks like fun, but pricey compared to big cruise lines.

They also have a rail/boat one that kinda follows the Canadian border, and they have one on the Hudson.

Not exactly comparable, but we did a Sacramento Delta cruise. The boat held maybe 30 guests and half dozen crew. It was fun, I imagine the Mississippi cruise would be about 100X better.

And if you do stop to see St Louis, check out St Charles, just a few mile up the I-70. Nice town, good food and it's where Lewis and Clark began their exploration journey. The boat house has been restored and houses a couple of replica boats of the era. Interesting.

Absolutely on our list...

Crazy expensive... but I will try and avoid the flooding/humidity timeframe

I'll check that out next time I'm there!

Off of the I-70 at 5th street, down Boones Lick Rd, at the waterfront. Lots of good food in the area. For good steak or prime rib, can't beat Kreis Restaurant (www.kreissteakhouse.com) on Lindbergh, south of the airport a couple of miles.

This^ actually concerns me. Not that I’m offended by old people but with less than 200 on board it may be difficult to find like minded people to hang with.

Well easy solution ;)

I’ll pick a date and announce it on here...

We all go and take over the ship :)

I’ll be looking for one in 2020 / the date will be when we can expect the best weather.

Who’s interested?
