Poser ;)

We were tossing around the idea of a Parker Moose lodge yesterday over drinks.:D

You don't have to be a VFW, to become part of the VFW anymore.. ;) They changed the rules awhile back to up membership / participation.

I don't see a provision for being the kid of a veteran.

Well actually one of the things that pissed my old man off till the day he died, is he was NOT a veteran.. Korea was a "conflict" not a war..

Now my brother whom was on an aircraft carrier in Dessert Storm is technically a veteran.. ;)

If you are directly related to a veteran then you can indeed join the VFW.

They have great food, good drinks, nice people and it's very reasonably priced.

Details..He served and was overseas, good enough for me. I didn't know that about your brother though.

I always heard that about relatives and believed it until I read the rules above.

We went into the VFW in Parker and that's what they flat told me.. Here's the form, get his discharge papers, and no problemo..

The one in escondido told me the same thing.. (long story as to why I was there)

I'm a member of The Secret Order of Boll Weevils. We do lots of charity work and disrupt parties and other functions put on by the upper crust of society. And we drink and party...a lot. :D :D

It's called the Men's auxiliary. I friend of mine is very active in it in the Mesa area. In fact they are doing an event at La Paz park in April.

When you sit at the bar, ya have to stick your thumbs in your ears and wiggle your fingers. It's the secret sign to the bartender that ya want another drink.

Also, after the initiation ritual for membership,, if ya tell anyone what ya had to do to the goat to get accepted,, they'll kick you out for revealing secrets.

Hint:
The goat is wearing rain boots on it's rear legs,, with plenty of room for your feet too.

2 of my buddies have been bugging me to join the Elks with them. The Elks lodge in San Pedro is pimp as shit. Great food, cheap drinks, hill top view of the harbor, pool, gym, etc. I've just been to lazy to turn in the paperwork.

The Mason's have been integral to the establishment of most Western governments for centuries.

You should join, then get a few others to become HOA Board members at the Keys. That will be a huge first step toward RD's world domination :thumbsup

There is a lot of american history with the organization.. That is always what intrigued me about it. I'm sure most of that is dead in today's times now though.

I asked a couple of my buddies what the point of it is, and they can never really give me a clear answer and play the secretive card.

My grandfather was a Mason, he ran an arcade and a gas station.

My father in law was a Mason. The only thing he ever dominated was all the free beer he could pull out of my cooler.

I don't think they are all into that National Treasure stuff.

IMHO, the way to belong to Fraternal organizations and get the most out of them is not get too involved in the operation of them.
Mostly just enjoy being a member and use the facilities.

Avoid the politics, avoid chairing a committee or project and you'll avoid making enemies.

You will most certainly make enemies if you are any part of any decision or policy or rule making process, or have authority on anything that generates cash flow.
It gets real ugly real quick.

Help out with a function perhaps,, volunteer bar tend,, help out with a dinner,, but anything deeper is best left for those with nothing better to do, and a person is best just taking advantage of membership bennies.
