We have USAA, we are paying around $6k. Most of our neighbors have been canceled and are using the California fair plan +.

Try State Farm if you haven’t already. Our rate almost doubled, but they are covering us and we are in a fire zone. Don’t know if they are only keeping existing customers or writing new. Worth a try. Last time I talked to our agent she said they were the only ones in CA writing still.

We’re in a fire zone in san dimas .
We have State Farm $1956.00yr
With high deductible.
I was told to stay with them and don’t rattle the cage with small things
Nobody else will insure us .

I heard USAA just announced they won’t write new policies in CA. Not sure how they can just hang up on a large swath of military families but apparently the CA Insurance office doesn’t have the balls to tell these companies they must still cover fire areas or they can’t do business in CA at all.

Insurance is supposed to be for risk, how can they be allowed to eliminate all risk?at that point what’s the point?

This is the same situation as me. Guess I should be happy with it. I’m at $1800 a year

Oh and for the record, I’m stuck with high risk insurance in Arrowhead (not the fair plan but the step below that). About $4500 per year.

Had to make lots of calls to find anyone willing to even write a high risk policy. Most just flat turned me down.

I assume it’s a matter of time before these insurance companies just pull out completely. I wonder what my mortgage will do if they require insurance but I can’t get it. I’ve said it before, they should get it for themselves if it’s that important to them.

I learned that today. It's insurance company coverage....plus cal fair thing.
My policy went up $1,200.00 this last year. I tried shopping around and either no one would touch me or the price was basically the same.

The only thing USAA was good for with me was semi fair interest loans on boats/toys... Insurance they have always been high... I will say on the contractor side they have always been the simplest to deal with. I check the rates but the only thing I've ever personally had with USAA was a boat loan like 8 years ago. I worked with them a lot on hail claims for solar in Texas though...they were great on that side..no argument.

If I can ask what part of CA, we looked at a beautiful place up by Arnold but couldn't get the insurance to work, pretty sure that was why they were selling, it truly was a fire sale

I'm in a fire zone in CA and my house has open eaves, not many insurance companies wanted to insure me. But Mercury did, no problem. I can't remember what I pay but it's not that much.

There are companies who will insure in CA and in fire zones, you’re just gonna pay out the ass for it.

We’re at a touch over $6k in unincorporated Murrieta. We have Farmers and the (not so) Fair Plan. We have a 4 year old house built with fire resistance in mind. It sucks but the weather……

What irks me is I have done all I can to make it less risk for the insurance but they don’t give me any break for it.

I specifically bought a house 50 feet from a fire hydrant, the fire dept itself is a half mile away. I did the Forrest Care project and thinned the trees out on my property (and away from the house) and also limbed the trees up which I now maintain. I do the property clearance every year which I can tell you most people don’t seem to do.

Most insurance, like everything else, is a giant faceless company with no community presence to know that every place is different and they just look up their map and ding you with zero knowledge about actual local conditions.

It's valley center. New build. Over 2 acres and plenty of defensible space.
We found coverage. Just over 7000, which is 5000 more than my current house 😬
We knew it was going up. Assumed it would be 5 to 6 a year.

I sure hope the piece and quiet is worth it living with no neighbors..

Sounds like a great place to hang out with the grandkids, when they start arriving in a few years

That's actually a big consideration. House has 1 more room. Single story.
Enough room for a track and open space.
It's also a downsize in cost. Which makes no sense at all.

It is. It’s why we pay the ridiculous insurance (among other things). Friends come to visit and remark how it doesn’t feel like you’re in CA. I love North County but didn’t want to deal with building there so we built almost as far south in RivCo we could. From my experience in the last 4 years, you’ll soon want even more space from people. Good Luck

We just got our renewal from Farmers. It went from $2K to $5K. I was going to try and shop around but it seems futile. The house is located in Rowland Heights near brush.

Rural Nevada County.
5-1/2 acres, 1800 sq ft 1200 sq foot shop.
State farm, dwelling and personal property.
2020 $1800
2022 $2700
2023 renewal arrived last month, $5000.

Rural Nevada County, my Mom's residence I am care taking.
6 acres, 1100 sq. ft. home on top of 1100 sq ft garage.
Don't know all yrs, but 2022 was $2200
Now $3800.

They say the inflation index for rebuilding added 4.5%.

This has impacted potential buyers in our price range, and the market here has slowed way down.
Our timing to try to move has been miserable. Cindy working an extra year before retiring strictly out of loyalty has bitten us in the ass.

Maybe, just maybe the idiots running the state will eventually realize they are driving away more than just residents......but I doubt it.😏

Well....from the replies looks like the quotes are in the ballpark!
We are moving 18 miles. 100% different in 25 minutes.
I cant retire in my current home (no immediate retirement plans). It's just the wrong vibe.
If our boys stay in socal, which is mostly likely happening, then we need to move.

Open house in 3 hours. I'm sure I won't sleep for 2 months.

$7000 a year for home insurance?
I just did a couple drives to san diego in your traffic
I could see $7000 a year for car insurance lol
You can have your nice state

I just had our vacation home in Northern AZ go from $476 to $1107 in 2 years
In a fire hazard area. I questioned the rate increase
Turns out their system didn't get the insurance credit score so they gave me a $280 credit
But it's also not a california baller home

Yes 7k.
But the house is 20 million so its not bad 🙄

7k a year is going to save us money leaving my current property taxes.

That sounds awesome! I’m excited for you! We really like Valley Center and considered moving there at one time. Is it on a well?

It's ridiculous. Very few homes burn down in massive fires compared to the millions that have zero issues. I think it's just big government CA wanting to control everything.
