Seems to be a lot of "getting old sucks" post so I thought I would keep the theme going.

Wife has been wirried about a dark spot on my back. I finally to the dermatologist last week. She froze some dry skin areas off my ear, forehead, hand and around my eye. Took a piece of the dark spot from my back to run test on it......... Well it came back as Melanoma.... Lucky it is stage zero, they schedule me to get it cut out on Tuesday.

I'm a white boy and apply sunscreen on at least 3 times a day when out in the sun.
Sucks getting old.

REI sells some nice SPF shirts. Been wearing them for awhile now when out in the sun.

Yeah, after having a couple of "spots" removed here and there, if we are going to be out all day, I have started wearing the long sleeve SPF shirts. Seem to work really well.

Yes Doctor said I am on the 6 month plan from now on.

Need to talk to @RiverDave about a senior rdp swag section of rash gaurds..

I told the wife if I have to wear a "sun shirt" I was going to sell the Eliminator and get a Bayliner, wear crocs, elastic dad board shorts, a big floppy hat with zink colored sunscreen on my face.......

Had a few Melanoma spots removed successfully last Fall. Also signed up for six month checkups. Don't need anymore cancer issues.

Going in for my turn next week...they see me every 6 months now. Keep slathering on the warpaint everyone!

had a spot on my right lower back they removed, said 85% chance it hadnt spread, but when they did the surgery ( after first cut was positive) they inject you with a dye and then remove the lymph nodes that it migrates to first, No problem they told me you have lots of lymph nodes these were in the crease between the right leg and torso, a few months later my leg began to swell below the knee, found out this is a common problem after they remove nodes from this area, now I have to wear a compression sock every day, if you listen closely you can hear me cursing them every time I struggle to put it on. ask them if they can check this with a cat scan before they hack on you if you get in this situation. Oh and had a hip replacement on the right side which increases the difficulty factor of putting on the sock. Old age is such fun, but as a friend my age said every morning I look up and if I don't see grass roots I know it's gonna be a good day!

Good for you for getting checked. This is literally my area of expertise. After they remove it, ask to know the thickness. Anything less than 0.5mm and you are in the clear. More than that and I would recommend a PET/CT. It is the most sensitive way to detect distant metastases. Medicare and all insurance plans cover it.

Well after reading this I realize I'm over due for my annual checkup. About every two years they cut stuff out of me. Usually around this time of year. Think I'll head in.

I've been down the same road with melanoma and that isn't anything to mess around with. Good for you taking care of it quickly. Lubriderm used to sell lotion with SPF 15 which was great. Unfortunately, it's been discontinued. So now I just use SPF 30 on a regular basis. 👍

OK, I have been thinking about finding a durmo in my neck of the woods for the last few months, any suggestions in the Murrieta/Temecula area?
Never been to one other than getting a cyst carved off my back about 15 years ago.

Is this your first? I'm about 70 stitches from moze procedures. Nose, ear , arms on and on.
Get checked often. You are off to the races now. Better to get cut than let things go.

Some must just be genetically pre- disposed to this? I have friends that were in the sun occasionally that have it and others that look like a damn crocodile and never had a lick of it?

You have to be very vigilant with melanoma cancer. Those damn cells can pop-out anywhere in the body. There are patients that have them in sinus cavity or colon cancer and it was melanoma. The patient never had melanoma on the skin as the original site. I work@ Uci med center in the pet/ct dept.

You know I was among the first to come out with a UV shirt in Havasu.. I couldn’t give the god damn things away.. here we are five six years later and everyone wants em. 🤪
Well, bring ‘‘em back Ardey. Long sleeve with hood is all I wear on the bote, and I’m not necessarily old, but I want to be the old fucker hauling ass up and down the river some day.
Watch the FUCK out!

I have one of your long sleeve shirts. But I got a 2XL, and it is too big. I usually wear 2XL shirts. Mine is gray with a prop and RDP on the front. Nice shirt though.

6 month check up this morning! Froze three spots.

I wear SPF long sleeve shirts or short sleeve with additional sleeves I pull on…

Big floppy hat that has a mullet - that’s what I call it - it protects the back of my deck.

Sunglasses 😎. I need to get better at doing the sunscreen lotion on exposed skin and chapstick

“Sucks getting old” - I have far too many very good friends and relatives who never got that chance. If you’ve been blessed with aging, accept it, take good care, don’t do stupid things now and ENJOY!
